FWIW, I put BisonBison's win rate at $3/$6 at: 1.574BB/100

No.

Just an aside if one plays fewer tables and plays those optimally he/she should not be stressed.

Like all other jobs poker becomes a grind. My feeling is that you must LOVE to play the game to play it for a living for any extended amount of time ie year-after-year.If you love to play you wont mind playing a few extra hours a day to make your $200/$400/$800 a day whatever your goal is.

This fixation on 8-tabling is ludicrous..it's burned out more wannabes and it's actually a good thing for the solid players.I play 4-8 tables mostly always 6.But if I'm not beating a game soundly I wont be playing 8 tables.Soundly I mean better than 2.50 bb/100 more like ~2.75/3.00/3.25 bb/100.

What has happened is you have a lot of book/2+2 taught players that think playing some # of tables is a prerequiste to success..that's bs.Play few tables and absorb a bit of what you are doing -dang it.Fock SSHE Anyone should know intuitively after focusing just on playing fewer tables that certain plays must be made to have a chance to have solid numbers-but this takes time! One of the most important is betting second pair/decent kicker in to a field of 3 or less players postflop in a full LHE ring game. You also must steal blinds liberally and you need to play like a pitbull wanting to win every pot but at the same time be able to learn to love to fold. It's a zig and zag that you will learn from playing 1,2 or 3 tables well NOT 6 or 8.At each higher game level you must re-learn or adapt to a new skillset that will work at that level.Playing too many tables takes away your ability to adapt to the specific game conditions at that particular table UNLESS you have a very solid underpinning in your game.Meaning you just make the correct plays sub-conciously/qucikly because you've seen the same scenarios over and over. What happens to many 2+2'ers is that they dont allow themselves to really optimize a particualr game-plan for whatever limit they are moving up to because they play too many tables.

Anyone making less than 2 bb/100 in smaller LHE games should be playing fewer tables. They need to work on their game.

The above comments are for all LHE ring games below $5-10 LHE.

Default Questions questions questions . . .

It sounds like you spread your hours out over the week, concentrating on Friday and Saturday -- but what time of the day did you play?

Did you bother buying health insurance? If so, how much did it cost?

On a similar note, with a Regular Job one often gets a 401k, etc. -- did you make sure you saved a given % of your profits? Was money management something you spent some time on, or was it more a matter of spend when you feel like it, save a little bit just in case, and . . . that's about it...?

Do you know what your worst month was in terms of BB/100? Was it easy to shake off, or did you go through some self-doubt?

I mentioned this to my fiance at dinner. She was, I kid you not, flabbergasted that people work at google. She is highly intelligent, well educated, and maneuvers the net just fine, but somehow she thought google just happened...like it was part of the structure of the internet or something.

I have no idea how many people work there but I'm sure even if all you had were the guys taking care of the computers and the guys counting the money, it wouldn't be a small place...Eventually I conviced her of that too.

Will you be experimenting with more different games now that poker doesn't need to be supporting income? NL, SNGs, SH limit?

Congratulations on the new job.

bb,
When you first started playing for a living, did you think "Oooh yeah baby, this is how I'm gonna support myself for the rest of my life - playing poker on line. I'm the man...yeeeehaaaa!" and then get burnt out?

Or were you like "Well, I'm pretty good at poker....maybe I'll give it a try and see how it goes for a while", then realized that it wasn't all that and you got burned out?

Maybe you discussed this before in another post of yours, but I a haven't read all 50K of them.

Also, I assume the converter will be available for all time?

What was your longest span of time where you lost money? Did you ever have a losing month?

11 months ago, I came to this forum asking for help. I had previously spent 3 days at the Bicycle Casino playing .50/1, 1/2, and 2/4 limit. I held my own playing .50/1 and 1/2 limit. However, I lost my buy-in playing 2/4 limit while being severely ridiculed by those at the table. You along with about 4 other posters gave me some advice. Now that you are leaving the profession, I want to say thank you for taking the time to help others not as skilled or as knowledgeable as you are. At that time, I had read most of the well known poker books and used Turbo Texas Holdem before making my first appearance in a casino. As I look at my game now compared to 11 months ago, I see lots of improvement. My understanding of the game is deeper now. I can even shiffle chips. In fact, I am a winning No Limit player. I won $301 today playing $50NL and $25NL on Party Poker. However, I'll stay modest because I think that I have only scratched the tip of the iceberg. There is still more to learn.

Charmy
