Help With Tournament Game

Hi Guys, I'm asking for some help - I CONSTANTLY in the last 6/7 tournaments I played in with 300, 400, 500 people am getting knocked out like 11th place, 9th place, 14th place, and it's just out of the real money. I try to play conservative even up to the point blinds are big but can never catch any hands. Is the strategy as a short stack with big blinds to just go buck wild? And when your a big stack fold AQ etc...?
