check raise semi bluff, only 2 outs
hey guys,
How often do you attempt moves like this? My read was that everyone was weak because no one raised preflop, then everyone checked the flop. Everytime gus bet the minimum previously, he would fold to a raise or his cards told me he was weak. I knew my $200 raise would make him fold. As far as the rest of the players, I felt that they were weak and would fold to. I figured everyone would fold back to gus the original raiser and he would then fold too. When bagginz calls my bet, i just shut down. I normally check raise semi bluff against one weak tight opponent and I live and die by it. I have destroyed my last two tournament chances because of it and am wondering if I should save it for the later stages or when I have a lot more chips. #Game No : 1163730963 ***** Hand History for Game 1163730963 ***** NL Hold'em Trny:7101818 Level:3 Blinds (15/30) - Wednesday, November 10, 21:57:43 EDT 2004 Table Multi-Table(130729) Table #20 (Real Money) Seat 8 is the button Total number of players : 10 Seat 3: strokes ( $1000 ) Seat 4: vtbagginz ( $1835 ) Seat 5: ecgruen ( $1000 ) Seat 6: zast1 ( $590 ) Seat 7: russo78 ( $2370 ) Seat 8: gus3953 ( $1820 ) Seat 9: flopjunkie ( $1378 ) Seat 10: kinger18 ( $527 ) Seat 1: ay1979 ( $2940 ) Seat 2: pokrplhyr789 ( $1395 ) Trny:7101818 Level:3 Blinds (15/30) ** Dealing down cards ** Dealt to kinger18 [ 2s 2h ] ay1979 folds. pokrplhyr789 folds. strokes folds. vtbagginz calls [30]. ecgruen calls [30]. zast1 folds. russo78 folds. gus3953 calls [30]. flopjunkie calls [15]. kinger18 checks. ** Dealing Flop ** [ 5s, 9s, 9c ] flopjunkie checks. kinger18 checks. vtbagginz checks. ecgruen checks. gus3953 bets [30]. flopjunkie folds. kinger18 raises [200]. vtbagginz calls [200]. ecgruen folds. gus3953 folds. ** Dealing Turn ** [ 8h ] kinger18 checks. vtbagginz checks. ** Dealing River ** [ Ts ] kinger18 checks. vtbagginz bets [297]. kinger18 folds. vtbagginz does not show cards. vtbagginz wins 877 chips Game #1163736716 starts. |

Re: check raise semi bluff, only 2 outs
I'd be more likely to bluff at this by leading out at the pot, not check-raising. If no one has a 9, most will fold unless they have an overpair or hold 55.
I would consider this more of a pure bluff (possibly with the best hand), not a semi-bluff. A semi-bluff usually requires that when you are called, your hand figures to have a good chance to improve to the best hand. Since you have only two outs on this board (let's consider your backdoor 2-high flush draw worthless, heh), I wouldn't really consider it to have a good chance of improving if called. It sure looks like vtbagginz has you beat here, though the check on fourth street could mean he had a big draw (flush draw + inside straight draw?) and wanted a free card. |
