Preflop I think you should cap. Its 8 handed and you open raised one off the cutoff, the button's three bet doesn't really need to be a big hand. The SB's hand probably isn't that strong either since he didn't cap, and many players do stupidly call raises and even three bets in the SB with suspect holdings.
Also, one of your opponents might have AK too, and if you cap preflop, you stand a better chance of taking it down if you both miss. Postflop, I think you did fine. He three-bet you preflop and likes the KXX. He could have AA, KK, or he could have AK, KQ, KJs, or a random stupid hand. Show it down. |

I think you slowed down too quick when he 3 bet the flop. I cap here and lead out on the turn. With him throwing out an extra SB on the flop he could easily check behind you on the river with a hand like JJ and save himself a BB on the river. A lot of Party 15/30 players will play a hand worse than your AK this way.

Agree with Jeff. Only a few hands beat you, AA and 88. You can pretty much rule out KK, besides, as set would probably have popped you on the turn. Seems like he has J worse kicker or a worse hand. At worst, youre tied. I like the cap and lead the turn.

If you cap the flop, and lead out on the turn, and the flop is KXX, and he has JJ, as you suggest, won't most opponents fold the turn? Wouldn't you?

I would, though I would probably fold to the reraise on the turn. In most situations, they call you down. Why, I dont know.

Yes. Which is why I cap the flop and lead out on the turn.

Apologies for the slow results. Nothing annoys me more than waiting to see how good my read was on a forum post.
He had 88, flopped a set, and dragged the pot. |

It's interesting that just about everyone suggests I should have been more aggressive.
I just got back from Vegas, where the Bellagio 15/30 is remarkably passive. If you get raised, you're beat. That was sorta my mindset sitting in this game. Cap the flop? From 2 off the cutoff out of position? Unless the guy is a maniac, the only hands I'm ahead of are AQ or AJs. Perhaps I should have been more aggressive, but he seemed to be raising like he had it, so I figured that at best I was going to split the pot. Maybe it was the Bellagio mindset. |
