Does this ever work?
Party 15/30 - New to the table, only played 8 hands. The only important opponent, the small blind, I haven't played with before but he seems loose/passive, he only called on the river, heads up when he made runner, runner trip K's.
I'm in the Big Blind and get dealt K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. 2 limpers, a poster and the small blind (SB) call, I raise, all call, 5 to the flop (10 sb). Flop comes Ac 4c 3c Everyone checks. Turn is 7s I bet and everyone folds to the small blind who doesn't act for a while then calls. Heads up to the river, 7BB. River is a 6h Is there any point in betting here? Checking seems kinda week. |

Re: Does this ever work?
I'd say No, I think you'll probably win any hand he would fold anyway

id check and let him bet if he hit his gutshot straight, then raise back.

Re: Does this ever work?
Against most players, you should check. However, since this opponent seems to rarely call the river, he may be (unusual) type that won't call without top pair. If this is the case, you should definitely bet again.
my 2 cents. Eric |

Well, before I could second guess myself I looked at the size of the pot and decided to bet.
Fortunately my opponent folded so we'll never know what he had. Not sure if that was the correct play or not. |

Re: Results
I am fairly sure you had him beat. It sounds like he had a flush draw and missed. I would expect him to call with any pair in this situation and fold with a missed flush draw. Since you had the nut-no-pair hand, betting seems bad in this situation.
