Re: If Bush Loses...

There's a common pattern (assuming, of course, Dubya loses):

1) He's regarded as the worst President since [insert name here].

2) Memories fade and he's rehabilitated somewhat. A recent example...

Re: Bad few days, need some advice

In short, try not to worry, take a few days off if necessary and then, play on!

My biggest critisism of poker books in general is they fail to emphasise just how small our winning margin is, and...

The WSOP Dream (Fiction - long)

I hacked this little essay out a few weeks ago and sent it to "Poker Pages." Got no reply, and so I'm posting it here.

Hope you enjoy it...

Allegedly, it's "every poker player's dream" to win...

What\'s your win % ?

Hello everyone,

Two years ago, before I started playing on-line I believed that a "normal" win percentage was about about one hand per lap, or approx 10%.

With over 40,000 hands played on-line,...

Re: perspective **OT**

Dilbert,

There is not a single piece of evidence linking the destruction of the WTC with Iraq.

The highjackers, and Bin-Laden family comes from Saudi-Arabia.

Please don't go around repeating...

Re: Card Player Magazine -- Changing Format

I just love this sentence:

"To ensure that Card Player was the only game in town, Barry bought the only rival publication, Poker Digest, in 2002 for $800,000 solely to kill it."

That should be...

Re: Why they are Pros, and we are not

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the excellent essay by John Feeney called "The Best Player I've Ever Seen..."

In the essay, John cautions us to be skeptical about such stories. He notes...

Re: Poker Tip

Here's an attempt at a partial defence of CardPlayer, god knows I've slagged the magazine off enough times in the past...

Three points:

1) Rightly or wrongly, I never play J7 suited unless I...

Re: Getting sick of poker (not because of bad beats)

Thanks for a painfully honest post.

Perhaps your desire will return after a break away from the game? If it doesn't, you can always play a few hands competently if you find yourself in Las Vegas...

Re: Reporters really SHOULDNT do poker stories

What a loathsome piece!

Hard to know if it's a lazy reporter not doing any fact checking, or being taken for a ride by a pathalogical liar living off some kind of disability allowance and...

Re: Planning the Ultimate Low-Limit Vegas Trip

I take a lot of flack for this view, but I'm 100% sure that internet poker games are far tougher than standard low-limit games in real casinos.

Maybe it's because I'm in England, and therefore...

Normal Distribution Table result wanted

Hello everyone,

In "Gambling Theory and Other Topics" Mason gives a formula you can use to work out how many sessions you will lose.

Solving for "X" with my own results I arrived at a figure of...

Re: What is our percentage edge as Poker players?

Thanks for doing the query!

Your numbers are impressive, although not a million miles away from the rough guesstimate I did (see my other reply).

Re: What is our percentage edge as Poker players?

Absolutely!

But calculating that amount, or coming up with an accurate estimate is very difficult!

Here's the way my crappy non-mathmatical brain sees it:

Lets assume 35 hands are dealt each...

What is our percentage edge as Poker players?

Hello everyone,

What is our edge as poker players?

In a casino, every game has an edge. For example, playing craps, I've read that pass-line bets have a negative edge of 1.4% for the player....

Re: new Phil Hellmuth book?

Hello Rick,

I agree with your comments 100%.

Perhaps the main problem with "batting average" is that the information, while available, is almost impossible to collect... To take poor old Phil...

Re: Good Morning! 10% winners-- ? % are experts??..Hmmm

Hello Sitting Bull,

I agree that very very few players are experts in more than two or three variations of poker, and an even smaller number can play at expert level in all the games.

However,...

Having followed Phil's career for many years (with a mixture of amusement, contempt, and sheer disbelief) I can't say I'm too surprised by what Mason reports.

Close reading of his articles...

Re: When aggression and your current \'luck\' don\'t mix

Hello KDF,

I suspect we actually have two questions going on here:

1) What to do when my morale gets lowered by successive beats?

2) Is my "basic" strategy correct or does it need changing?...

Yes, loads of players get under my skin, in fact I believe it brings out the inner psychopath in me, which makes me concentrate harder, play tighter...
