Re: Buying a stack.
Assume the following stack sizes:
2500
1400
1400
1000
700
The blinds are currently 25-50. You're buying the 700 stack. What is the theoretical value of the stack?

Buying a stack.
What is the appropriate amount (in terms of the percentage of the prize pool) to pay for a stack in a freezout tournament? Assume the following:
There are 5 players and you will be buying the...

Re: Biggest Fish I\'ve ever run across
That bad beat story was totally awesome. It was food for thought that, after fully digested, will no doubt make me a better poker player and wiser in the ways of the world. Thanks goruchie!

Re: Party $25 max, 6 handed or full ring?
6max, no question. People frequently multi-table in full games and are not the kind of players you want to be playing against. There will usually be 1.5 loosies in these games but you'll face off...

Re: JJ and implicit collusion
I'm interested to know how you define "implicit collusion" and how you think it applies here because I don't see how it does. It usually implies players working together tacitly for mutual gain. For...

Re: TPTK + flush draw... did I play this right?
I raise on the flop. It's where your advantage is the biggest and you may get paid off by a number of other hands including an inferior flush draw. By just calling everyone's going to put you on a...

Re: Showing Your Hand
When opponents are giving you so much respect that your big hands simply arent getting paid off, it's worth showing a bluff. However, if you're getting that much respect you're probably playing sub...

Re: Learning no limit
I think the play you need to make in both these situations is extremely straightforward.
First hand is an easy check fold. Your hand is trash. You might have wanted to raise more on the flop to be...

Re: First big pot in NL--played correctly?
I think betting out on the flop is by far the best play. If you get raised you can get all your chips in there. You'll almost certainly get called by a draw or someone with any kind of hand. I think...

Re: AKs, my play ok?
Nothing wrong here. No way you could have realized you were beat on the flop until it was too late with stacks that short. The fact that you picked up a flush draw on the turn makes the push even...

Re: 1/2 flush hand
Definitely think it's worth calling $55 to win $141 here, especially since the river made a 4-straight and he could be bluffing figuring that you have to fold any non-straight /non-flush. If he...

Re: Mid PP 88-JJ
Limp all from all positions. You may want to raise JJ and TT from LP when you're first in the pot. Otherwise I just play them for set value. At small-stakes games you'll almost always get more than...

1) In a full game:

MP: Raise AA,KK,QQ, JJ (limping is OK too w/ JJ) AK, AQs (if first raiser) Limp TT-22, AQo, AJ, KQ, QJs, JTs, ATs-A7s, suited...

Re: Was I whacko to do this?
Fold. One of them has a flush (6 people saw the flop and you have a raise to your bet then a push on a monotone board) and you don't have odds to draw to a boat.

Re: Another hand, and 2 revelations...
I really don't understand minraises preflop. What do you hope to accomplish with such a raise? On the flop this is a no-brainer bet. If you're check-raised you fold.
Getting a read on someone is...

I've never played at these limits but the call preflop is only decent because there are so many other callers. Normally it's a fold, epecially out of position. Bet the pot on the flop. Why 1/3 of the...

Re: Online shark becomes live fish?
I think you should post this hand again a couple weeks from now and see what people think then.
Sorry, had to do it.
Fold is neutral EV. Set makes a move earlier on a 3 straight flop.

Re: AA worst hand in poker
Reraise prelop. You'd do well to NEVER "milk" aces. When all 5 cards are out, a one pair hand is pretty poor multiway. Get as much money in preflop as possible. Just calling is an awful play.

Re: What to do with aces...
No minraises with aces preflop!! If CO was willing to raise 2 he's certainly going to be willing to call more than 2 more. When you have aces you want to MAXIMIZE THE MONEY IN THE POT PREFLOP....
