How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
I'm just curious as to how much OT people are putting in each year that is unpaid. When I speak of OT I mean anything greater than a 37.5 hour work week - or 40 in some cases. At my job I'm between 200-300 OT hours each year and all we get for it is a few days off in lieu so I'm curious if this is in the normal range for a salaried employee.

sounds about right..

Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
Who works a 37.5 hour week? I probably worked a couple hundred hours of OT last year. I'm salaried, so that's all uncompensated.

[/ QUOTE ] Not-for-profit (not non) is usually like a ~38.5 hour week. It has to be sub-40. I don't really remember why anymore but when i worked at UL I'm sure i was told whatever stipulation in the not-for-profit code caused them to have all the salary employees at 38.5 |

[/ QUOTE ] No I don't, but "officially" I'm on a 37.5 hour work week and my total OT does not include lunch. If I included the times I worked thru lunch I guess that's another 100 hours as I don't always work thru lunch. |
Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
FYI salaried does not always mean you are exempt from overtime.

Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
I am a salaried It guy and I have worked 21 hours days for the last 4 days in a row and this is pretty much the norm! I would say that I work between 300 and 400 hours a year in upaid OT. If there are big project going on this number could be even higher. I have spent 5 days at work without going home before!

I am on 100% commision so I do not get paid by the hour or a salary. I have to talk some grumpy IT guy into buying something before I get paid. |
Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
How much do you get paid for reading OOT is a better question.
I'd say about $8,000 a year. |

However, I haven't had to work overtime in almost 2 years. |
Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
For those people that might not have realized what OT is right away like me, overtime.
|
Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
Zero. I bill by the hour. But then again, I get Zero overtime pay also.

Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
It depends on wether we consider subjective bonuses which are somewhat correlated with how many hours worked. If not about 1200 probably.

Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
1.5 today, 2.0 by your crazy 37.5 standard.

Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
I'm hourly and staying that way as long as I can.
I'm on-call 24/7 and if the phone even rings once it's 15 minutes. If I'm thinking about work during off-hours I'm charging them. |

Either that or get a new damn job. That's just insane. |
Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
salaried and as of 3 months ago I get overtime.
Before that, I averaged 10 hours a week unpaid overtime. Now, they kick me out at 5 unless I have a "really valid reason" to stay...like I was just sitting here beforehand... |
Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
I have never, ever ever ever worked more then say 20 hours in a week.
|
Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
Yeah, I am an independent contracter, so for all hours I get paid the same amount, from the 1st hour I work, up to the 65th hour i work, and it sometimes gets that high.
AHHH i hate work! |
Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
I don't get it.
Why the hell are you guys working 200-300 hours a year without getting paid for it? How can you work unpaid overtime? That seems against the law or something. |

That's absurd. |
Re: How much unpaid OT do you work in a year?
Yes, grasshopper, in time you will learn that the world does not work perfectly in accordance with logic and fairness.
