Someone who looks to get an edge in not so kosher ways. String betting a good example. Worm from rounders a good example of this type of character. Angle shooters fall somewhere between fly **** and cockroaches in the grand scheme of things.

you're probably correct. but i'm a low limts leisure player that does well at my local low limit casino games, so i'm just trying to add a bit of fun.

since i can't seem to make myself look good. i've amended your motto to:

play good, have fun.

one thing i can't stand at low limits is people who take it too seriously.

String betting is making a call, and then making a raise. The classic form, is from the old western poker game.

'I'll see your 100 head of cattle,...and I'll raise you 160 acres of prime land...'

It is not approved, because the original bettors reaction to a call, might be the reason that the second player raises. String bets are not allowed in public cardrooms.

Usually what happens is, a player brings out enough chips to make a call, and then goes back to his stack for more chips to raise.

If you are going to raise, in most cardrooms, you need to bring out at least 1/2 of the value of your raise. For example, in a 15-30 game, you would need to have at least $45 in your hand to make your raise, otherwise the raise would be disallowed. The other way to make your raise is to verbally declare your raise, and then you can bring your chips out as you wish. I think that it is generally better to verbally raise, because then you have preserved your rights, no matter how badly you fumble with your chips.

Okay I know what you mean now. They put a line at our card room to prevent that type of thing from happening. Your verbal bet counts. If you bring your chips out over the line without saying anything you are considered called. If there is no bet to you and you tap over the line you have to bet the max even though you may want to have just called. On the other hand if you just say raise and throw out say ffour of an 8 dollar raise then your bet is only 4 unless you have said 4.

If you can look like a scared college kid (like in Vegas for his 21st, bring a football beer to the table or whatever) who's trying out poker for the first time you can induce some bluffy calls and raises from players one generation older, but after the first check raise the game is up...it's worth it though, I got to check raise a guy who looked like my physics prof. on all streets (AK vs. A10). But after that hand the gig was up.

I wonder if N+1 generation players always gun vs. N players. Grandpa is cool, but Dad takes it personal.

Oh yeah, and play the Excalibur game. It's a hoot.
