Just got back from st. louis last night (this morning) after 2 days of apartment hunting and getting to know the area around Washington University...

mommy accompanied me and we hit the Ameristar casino on monday night.

now i'm not a big middle america junkie but i've got to hand it to the missourians...they know how to turn an eyesore into a spectacle. from what i'm told, this massive construct (the Ameristar Casino) is really 2 barges put together (must be gorrilla glue) and filled with crazy people who love to try to lose more than the state-sanctioned $500/2hour loss limit.

we get there after wrong directions at 10pm and the place shuts down at 12am for a computer update...so not too much time to gamble it up...oh well, lets see how the 10/20 goes...

i meet and greet the 9 table pokerroom staff and am eventually escorted to a 10 game in the corner of the room. now i've seen some crazy stuff folks, but i think this game may have rivaled that described by the babe in the mid/highstakes forum at the mirage 10am monday. people were so bad it made me sick, with joy /images/graemlins/smile.gif ... real real crazies...and they TALKED like they all wanted to teach everybody else what to do while i just sat there...and sat there...and sat there until i got some cards.

people were shouting, 'HOW COULD YOU CALL THAT WITH [insert rediculous hand here] AFTER I CAPPED ON THE FLOP WITH [insert other rediculous hand here]' the dealer was smiling and i was trying not to snort my cola through my nostrils. one lady was in the 8 seat and STILL couldn't see the freaking board so at every river (which she frequented with all sorts of stuff) she'd stand up and move her entire body over the cards so she was looking at them from a bird's eye view. one time she thought she had a flush on a 3suited board and raised and reraised. then called the floor (who dealt with the situation admirably) saying she was cheated!! that held the game up but nobody got out of their mood, thankfully. a few hands later she got up to view the cards, which didn't seem to be helping much as she probably needed them in brialle, put her arm on the table and MISSED, fell flat on her back (not too hurt, but caused a rucus) quickly got up and said "i think i'll fold" BUT THEN PROCEEDED TO PUT A RAISE IN THE POT!! rediculous stuff from her in the brief time i was there

in any case if you get a chance to go to the ameristar in St. Louis i'd highly recommend you do so and play a bit tight at frist to protect your buy in until you can be sure you'll have a chance to rebuy (2 hrs). its not a big strategy change since a2s doesn't do well UTG with assuredly 3 bets back to you and 1 lady doing it LITERALLY blind lol...ONE TIME she even thought a club and a spade in her hand was a flush draw on a black red red board!!! really really rediculous.

get out there and have some fun!

a few questions,

1) since you live in st. louis are there any other games that go on in the city?

2) did you find the ameristar's poker room too small?

and i guess thats about it with emphasis on that first question..

thanks

the biggest st. louis home game i've heard of is 15/30 with a rake. fun! harrah's will be re-opening their poker room "soon". you could try visiting the president downtown, but from what i hear it's still a waste of time.

1) The only other casino that has a poker room is the President which is located downtown. But from what I've heard it's really small and really crappy so I have stayed away from it. Harras is supposedly getting a card room, I have heard that it will be open around July 1st, so we'll see.

2) I suppose Ameristar's card room is a little small. It's the only card room I've been to so I have nothing to compare it to. But I'll admit that it does need expanding when the waiting list is 2 hours long for 3/6 on a Saturday night.

Harrahs is opening a room July 1st, no one can tell me what they are spreading though. There are a few tourneys around the StL/Illinois area, but not much in the way of home games. Hopefull Ill be getting one going this winter either at the merchandise marts downtown, or some other place I can find in the city. If you are ever at Ted Drewes on chippewa, lemme know and Ill meet you there (I have a hook up for free custard, and live about 2 blocks away hehe).

Dairy Queen > Fritz's and Ted Drews' I'm not much of a frozen custard fan, though I can stand it if I have no other choice. But anyway....

I'd be down for a meet and greet sometime in the future. It'd be nice to meet other poker players.

DC, thatd be great....free food > dairy queen/fritz hehe.
Im at ameristar a lot, not too much lately that summer is here, but we definetly should all get together for a night of poker/Hustlers strip club.

while i haven't been to to the hustler, i have been into the lobby and promptly walked away. everything about it looked like a dump compared to diamond cabaret.

i was on a business trip 2 months ago in st.louis and visited the ameristar my last day.

My observations about the lack of skill there is the same. Many guys just out for fun, playing many hands, raising when they catch their cards, not understanding that kickers factor in.

One guy nearly blew his lid when the turn checked to me and i bet my straight draw, then caught it on river. He said keep betting with nothing, and i'll be taking your money...and the rest of table was in consesus with him.

Anyways, played about 2 hours of 5-10, built on my buyin from 200 to 460.

Then decided to try the 15-30 with kill game.

Brought my 460 there, and left 2 hours later with 1900.

I'm not going to say i didnt get a bit lucky along the way and catch some draws and trips to my pp's, but man it was probably the best single live poker session i ever had.
