Good player. Down to earth. Coaches Evelyn Ng. I hope I run into him at Vegas.

Plus he called Annie Duke a "[censored] cunt." And gave an extra boisterous cheer for Evelyn Ng when she busted Annie.

Regardless of whatever provoked the Negraneau-Duke problem and whoever's fault it was, Daniel has often acted in a very low class way because of it.

I have generally been a fan of what I have seen/read/heard about Danny N. What happened between him and Annie Duke and what was his reaction?

Reading McManus' book, I like Duke less for that extremely low brow move she pulled on a player in a satallite.
(she pulled a players hand out of the muck and looked at his hand to "make sure he was telling the truth" about his aces).

That moved sucked, but i know nothing of her outside of that situation (or Danny for that matter).

Just curious!

I'd say Daniel has some growing up to do. And so do you, if that kind of behavior makes him your hero.

how about drinking buddy? Go back to your wonderful neighborhood Mr. Rogers.

Daniel Negreanu

I have no real opinion on the topic. I think he comes off like kind of a douche, but whatever. I just thought it was funny that you spelled his name wrong. Retard.

Nah, I'm convinced he's great. I used to not like him as well, but I've come full circle. There are 2 players I like now, Negreanu and Ivey.

He's clearly in the right in this Annie Duke fiasco. From what I've seen of Annie Duke, she is the embodiment of everything I can't stand in women (from the stories I've heard).

There's only one player I like. Vinnie Vinh. All I know of him is seeing him on the last WPT show. When he won a hand, he'd yell VINNIE VINH!!!!!!!!!!!!! That ruled.

Excellent link. I'd heard the one about pulling the cards out of the muck and looking at them, but the others are new.

I've heard on good authority that you also give handjobs to Tom Vu.

those anecdotes were not very impressive. she sounds like a bit of an angle shooter and someone who thinks she can use her gender to shoot said angles. if she were to try and lean over and ever look at my cards i would tell her to get out of my face before i call the floor. he's a fool for letting her do it more than once without a real hard time coming down. niiice.

that said, daniel looks and sounds like a real socially inadequate tweaker dork himself. he looks like he should be a character named "ratso" in a b movie. plus he's from canada. and that skank evelyn is gross. but i dont like asian chicks so... on the other hand i think it's cool that annie has a bunch of kids and walks around barefoot and nurses her babies at the table. i can relate to that.

either way i think that socially awkward is the key here. you spend your whole life playing poker and you generally end up some sort of real social reject pig. period.

I just saw that one on my tivo. That did rule. He's all quiet and next think you know he's yelling his head off. I also liked the way he went all in with KJo when that fat guy told him, "Are you ready to dance."

I dont know Dan or have an opinion about him one way or the other but I can tell you that anyone who has spent any time with Annie basically refers to her as Annie Puke. She's a dirtbag.

J_V

I've had a few good friends hang out with dan for a while and my impression is that Danny is not socially awkward. I doubt Annie is socially awkward either. Although they both might be a bit immature. Some people say I am too as well, so be it, but socially awkward and immature are two very different birds.

And I don't think playing poker professionally makes you socially awkward, although a lot of times, the people that do choose to player poker ARE socially awkward.

Eh, I disagree with everything you said, Mike l. per usual. We are getting are good at this.

And, tell Annie to put her shoes back on in a public place.

I have spent some time with her at a tournament table in Aruba. She came off as very funny and helpful to us newbies to live play. So anyone does not include me.

If Daniel Negreanu really have used the words from JVs original post in public i am with Dynasty and others about his lack of class.

Who would win in a fight? My money's on Annie. Dan N. is one scrawny little dude, and you know Annie's got some junk in the trunk.

I agree that she sounds like a ho.

...is not something thats uniquely an Annie Duke thing.

I swear thats a woman thing.....

I love my wife and all, but if theres one thing she does that drives me nuts, is that she will argue whichever side of an issue works to her advantage, even if the previous time she took the other side because that time it would benefit her.

And i know for a fact many of my friends have the same issue with their women. They just don't seem to have built in logic to understand whats fair, but only what they get out of things, no matter how ridiculous it looks.

I had always understood "c*nt" to be about the vilest word one could use. Apparently, I was wrong as the word preceding it has been censored...I'd hate to think about the ghastliness of that term...lol

1. It's very rare that I see an Asian chick who is not obese and don't at least think she's decent.

2. Schoenfeld can keep her.

Yes, I've changed my opinion on the matter after seeing her at the world series a week or so back. I think she's pretty cool as a person, though sorta gold-digging and arrogant (who in the poker world isn't?), but I just don't see "it" anymore. "It" being whatever it is that makes a chick like her hot.

Anyone who disagrees with this sentiment has not put in their time in the poker rooms in the United States of America.

Or maybe they just haven't played where I have played (AC, SF, LA, LV, and CT).

Or maybe I am just wrong.

Anyway, even I cannot take the "professional poker scene" seriously if I don't stop hearing these mopes act like a bunch of whining 4th graders.

Let's all see if we can't muster up a little, ahem, dignity, just for the sake of the game.

I used to be a member of poker school online and he was one of the "teachers." he had a forum and actively participated whenever he could. granted he was paid to do it, but it was still cool, and he definitely is a down to earth, nice guy. I root for him more than anyone else, but then again, I also root for Hellmuth. the one thing that seems to turn most people off to them is their arrogance and outspokenness, but they are just living it up, trying to get as much attention and exposure as they can. I see nothing wrong with that.

there was a hand on showdown at the Sands where Negreanu had 72 and pushed a guy off 77, then showed the hand. yeah, it's a dick thing to do, but come on, if you were on TV and pushed a guy off a hand with the worst starting hand, you'd be pretty damn happy.

This statement is incorrect under the assumption of JV's reverse central distribution theorem for asain women. (very few median/mean, many clustering around the tails)

After watching the "Girl's Night" ep of WPT my attraction to her grew. From everthing I'd heard I expected her to play a lot worse.

If what Dan N. has to say about Annie is true, that's really weak on her part. But some of it shouldn't be a lingering issue- if she's pulling cards out of the muck, you stop it then, don't wait to bitch about it on the internet.

If I judged any TV tournament player's ability based on what I read on these boards, I'd think they'd all play poorly.

As for Daniel N vs Annie D:

I have not personally witnessed any of those behaviors on Annie's part. That doesn't mean that they don't happen.

On the other hand, I have witnessed some poor behavior on Daniel N's part - some on TV, some on his internet whining.

When I walk away from that, my opinion of Daniel is more negatively impacted because of his own behavior.

That's really the risk one runs in publicly castigating someone else. If she's a jerk on her own merits, then that attribute will eventually become apparent to all, without Daniel having to stand up and whine about it. If it's not true, then Daniel will just mark himself as being a whiner.

Well, my addition to this is, while overall being very nice, helpful, and accessable in Aruba for UB II, she DID wear the same pants and shirt at LEAST 4 times while there. Busy mom, sure, but JEEZ, i think you could afford 10 changes of clothes for a trip.
I think it's possible/probable that Annie has cleaned up her act as far as the angle shooting/rudeness, i'm thinking because of the high profile she now posesses in the poker world.

Almost as funny was watching all the French people get pissed off when he kept yelling it.

I think Dan N. is more of a gambler and doubt he really has the self control and focus to be a long-term winner. Annie Duke (and her brother) on the other hand, seem like rock solid, smart players who can beat many types of games, limit and no limit, over the long haul.

B Dids
05-13-2004, 11:00 AM
Hasn't Dan kinda already proven that he's a sold winner?

MRBAA
05-13-2004, 01:06 PM
I'm not sure he has. Clearly he is a strong player, capable of sitting in tough games and beating softer ones at mid limits. But I've read about him going broke, having substance problems and in general having a life that seems more consistent with the out of control gambler than the long term winner. Whereas Annie Duke has kids, house and seems very focused on playing well and improving skills. Of course they all have to have plenty of gamble to succeed. But to me it's the difference between a Doyle Brunson, a gamber who is a consistently great player and someone like a Puggy Pearson, who was a strong player but liked to gamble a little too much to really be a great one.
