Does anybody chop in low limit games, ie 4-8 games.

I always offer to chop, even if I have AA. But if someone refuses to once or raises into me out of the SB heads up...then the offer is gone from that point forward.

Nothing wrong with chopping or playing it out, just be consistent.

You should pretty much always chop in LL games if possible, the rake is just too much to overcome heads up.

I refuse to chop. I enjoy playing the game and playing heads up between the blinds is part of the game.

I think it's insane not to chop the blinds. You are getting murdered by the rake and for what? If you like playing heads up you should get a friend, a fifth, a deck of cards and some chips and play to your heart's content. If you enjoy pissing off everyone at the table and making yourself the target of their aggression then do what you must.

Whatever you do, make sure to keep it consistent. Nothing aggrivates a table more than a person who'll chop one time and then suddenly want to play his cards another time.

Personally I chop because the rake will just not make it worth your while.

I have only been to B&M I think 4 times, but I always make it known that I don't chop. even if I already know the policy, I will ask someone right when I sit down "what is your policy with chopping blinds?" and I will make sure to add something about how I don't believe in it. a lot of people don't know what it is, so we get into a conversation. it's nice because now people remember it

I've encountered the situation three times, and 2 of the times people at the table remembered that I said that I don't chop. the other time, the guy wasn't there when I said it, and he asked me if I'd mind chopping, and I said if he really wanted to I would. I had AJ.

most of you do, and that surprises me, because I never really considered the rake. in the past I've always done it as a principle thing. I felt like those situations are part of the game, but if they aren't profitable then I should avoid them

also, do you all get pissed off when someone doesn't want to chop, even if he's consistent? I generally am one of the more friendly people at the table, but if this would piss people off, I wouldn't want to do that.

as long as you do it one set way, it should be fine. i have 2 friends, one always chops because he sucks heads up and my other friend never chops because she says its a part of the game. but the moment that either of my friends changes their policies is the day that they deserve to be tounge lashed by the table.
so if you're a player then play, if you're a chopper then chop. but if you're a player and people are truly offended by your not chopping, you should probably give in and chop because the last thing you want is everybody at the table to be mad at you.

In a B&M casino, it's undoubtedly -EV not to chop at low limit tables. The rake is too much to think you can overcome it by outplaying your opponent post-flop. In fact, even at the mid-limits, you should chop. I chop at Commerce's 20-40 game, where their drop 1/5 of a SB. When the table is time charged, I would never chop.

If you want to play it, fine. Nobody can force you to make +EV decisions, and if you want to never chop, that's fine. What isn't fine is when you look at your cards and then decide. If the players to my right and left agree to chop, I'll chop with AA. Often, I don't even look at my cards.

Considering the rake at Foxwoods 2/4 and 4/8 you should always chop.

In a casino, when everyone folds to the blinds, you take your blinds back, next hand.

If the poster is going to play the Fox 4/8, he won't have to worry about this much. He has much more things to worry about, as value betting and building huge pots with so many callers than chopping blinds.

Always. I tell people on both sides of me right away, but I also tell them that if I have a possible jackpot hand that I will check it down and give them their $$ back. I ALWAYS show after the chop as well. I think it keeps up goodwill and everyone friendly, which at a 3/6 table is great. It usually helps them from realizing how much $$$ they are bleeding. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

As others have said, in a casino it's a no-brainer due to the rake. In Foxwoods, they take $2 when the flop comes down in 4-8. So of the $6 in blinds, 1/3 is gone right away.

However I also chop in a time 4-8 game I play if my neighbors want to, just as a good will thing. The game is so loose, that it rarely comes up anyway, and many people view it as unfriendly if you don't. However you must be totally consistent. I've actually had people say "I'll see". In that case, I always say I won't chop.

I just had an idea for online sites. They should have a little button, when you first sit down at a table, that you must set to either 'chop' or 'no chop' (once it's set you can't change it). Then, if it's folded around to the SB and both the SB and BB have the 'chop' button on, they take their money back and the hand ends.

If you are playing 4-8, where I play, the rake is 10% to four, with a jackpot drop at $15. Add in a dealer tip, and you are looking at losing up to 3/4 of a big bet from the pot. Your opponent would have to be pretty bad for you to recover that much from them on a regular basis.

Good luck,
play well,

Bob T.

I don't really get pissed off; I just think he's a moron.

I play a $3-$6 game with blinds of $1 and $3 and a drop of $4. So refusing to chop is idiotic. There's nothing in the pot to fight over.

Nonetheless, some people don't chop.
