I am surprised that you feel the raise to $7 on the flop was an attempt to take it right there. The pot was $6 to you. When you call the $2.50, that makes it $8.50, so your $4.50 raise is barely half the pot. I think a raise to $12 would be the lowest amount to expect to win it right there.

If there were a flush draw possible to go with the straight draw, then I would have said that a raise to at least $10 is really mandatory. Since there was not, I think your raise was about right, maybe just a little low.

Nice hand. Serves him right for not raising preflop, as you pointed out.
