i'm just realizing how bad my ipod headphones suck. i'd like some that are halfway decent, and block out some outside noise at least. the cheaper the better obviously. and since i need any excuse to get out of the house these days, any that i can get at best buy, apple store, circuit city would be bonus.
i know this has probably been posted but i'm lazy and i thought i'd give you guys a chance to answer again, or at least bitch about me not doing a search, since i know people love doing both of these things.

I second this. If you tend to bang around your mp3 player and subject the head phones to car doors, getting crushed at the bottom of a bag and so forth I wouldn't spend more than this. If you're more of an audiophile you really need to get rid of the notion that they must be cheap.

i have a tendency to break things. i'm kinda clumsy and careless, and just throw my ipod wherever.

Not too bad. Sharp MD33s are still better IMO.

Holla. Of course, if you are a p*ker player, shouldn't some $150 Etymotic ER-6's be cheap to you?

I guess, if you would rather get those than the better Shure headphones. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
However, the sound difference b/n either of those and the Sharps, and I guess Sonys to a lesser extent, isn't enough to warrant paying the price premium unless you are very specific about your music. And if that's the case, you usually won't end up buying such a "cheap" set of ear phones when you can get a bud like the E5c's, or some set of cans. I liken these to the BMW 325. Sure, it's a beemer, but it's the Honda Civic of the category.
I actually own both the Sony MDR-EX51 and the Panasonic RP-HJE50, and I actually prefer the Panasonics with regards to sound quality. Comfort-wise, they're pretty much exactly the same. The Panasonics are cheaper too.
