View Full Version : Any Tax Lawyers Out There?
The question I have is can you deduct the tip that you give to the dealers when you win a tournament, and what documentation do you need?
I'm an accountant and not a lawyer, but in my opinion, it would be very hard to get away deducting a tip.
The reasoning behind allowing deductions is that it is money spent to earn money. I'm not sure the logic is there to be able to say that by tipping a dealer (or anyone else) that you can reasonably expect to earn more money in the future than if you don't tip.
Unless you can logically argue that the dealer had a favourable impact on your results, I would say deducting tips is out and it may be a signal to the tax authorities to look further at your other deductions (it happens all the time).
