I bought a Western Digital 80GB Notebook HD off Newegg and it hasn't worked well at all -- it is not only loud, but it is almost as slow as my computer was when it was about to crash.

I am returning this one and I need to get another. Can anybody recommend a great performing notebook HD that is 60-80GB? thanks!

there aren't options. 7200rpm is as fast as it gets with notebook drives, and hitachi is the only game in town. the 100gb drives are brand new, prior to that we were stuck with 60gb. seagate has entered the market with a 100gb 7200rpm notebook drive, but it's slower than the 7k100, costs more, and is scarcely available. if you search for 7200rpm notebook drives everywhere all you'll find are the 7k60 and 7k100.

none that i would consider to be a signifigant upgrade unless you're running on an old 4200
