El Nino

"El Nino" is spelled with a wave looking thingy on top of the small "n" in "Nino". How can I make that kind of n in microsoft word? How can I make that n in a blog or post?

Press Alt Gr and press the button with ^ at the same time (hold down Alt Gr and then press the button). Release both and then press n. Now you will get the ñ.

In Word, go to Insert --> Symbols. The n is located in Latin-1. Or, hold down Crtl and Shift and hit ~, then type n.

Alt Gr is not the same as Alt and another key called Gr, Alt Gr is on the right side of Space on my keyboard atleast.

American keyboards don't have Alt Gr, I don't think. Or, it is not assigned as such when you select English-American as your default windows language.

Now if I can just learn to do it while making some sort of post on the internet.

This should work on american systems too: Hold down Alt and then write 164 on your numeric keyboard, the letter will come when you release Alt. You will then get ñ, if you want Ñ try Alt and 165.

Hmm, even when I set my regional settings to US it works for me both in IE and word. Plus the fact that I am also using an enlish operating system (w2k). This ñ-thing needs therapy!

I'm using Word XP, I think this may be the problem. I haven't done it in IE. I found a site (http://wordtips.vitalnews.com/Pages/T0991_Using_ASCII_and_ANSI_Characters.html) saying that the codes work in older versions; it does not mention Word XP.

Try Alt and 0209, Alt and 0241. Works for me also.

Still can't get the codes to work in Word. But Ctrl + Shift + ~, n works...

Nevermind, I got it. I'm on the laptop, forgot that you have to use the number pad, not just the numbers.

Mmm thought it was pretty odd, since all three ways worked for me.

If you are not doing this very often, you can also run charmap and then select, copy, and paste the characters you need.

Go to the Start menu, choose Run..., and then enter charmap into the Open text field of the Run window that opens up.

why not cut and paste they symbol from some place you or someone else typed it once
