View Full Version : Bartender tipping question

Worked late last night, the Warden was in school, so I dropped in on a local pub to have a bite and a pint or two and watch big fat David Wells throw BP to the Devil Dogs.

I ordered a Sam Octoberfest draft. The barmaid - not quite a dish but stacked - tells me that Miller Lite drafts are $1. I thank her but I'm sticking with Sam.

Four pints and some tasty $8.99 chicklin flings later, it's time to settle up. I notice that she's been charging me $1 per beer, recording the sale as Miller Lite even though I'm drinking Sam.

Total bill came to $14.92.

How much to tip?

You left out necessary information.

just give her a $20 and tell her to keep the change.

assuming a sam is $3.50 (typical), i would probably tip $10 in this situation.

i am a pretty heavy tipper to begin with though. i like getting the bell. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

What info is missing?

She was a 6.5 on my scale.

I did not ask her to charge me $1 per beer.

My wife (the Warden) and I visit this place every so often, but I'm not a "regular." I did chat with the manager when I got there, but nothing special.

Pears make you [censored].

Am I getting warmer here? What did I miss?

I'd give her $25 as well. If you're not planning on visiting this place with any frequency then a couple bucks less is ok.

Sounds about right. I usually go with normal tip + 1/2 whatever discount I received.

This was Boston Billards. Sam October is $4.50 there.

edit: I think. She didn't tell me how much the Sam costs.

Oh yeah, BB is pretty steep. Probably still $10 though, no waitress will ever complain about a $10 tip on a $15 tab.

Nice tables there, do you play? Oh and those waitresses' outfits, short black skirts with FMBs...joy.

So...what did you tip?

I'd give her $25.

I would leave 30 bucks total. That should hold these prices for next time as well...

She did, after all, sell you beer for 1/3 of the price.

My standard methos in this situation is to tip $1 pr beer, plus i give her half the difference. So ($4.50x4)=*18-($1x4)=$14/2=$7+($1x4)=$11 tip for the beers. The food was $8.99 so tip a buck and a half for that. $14.92+$12.50 is around $27.50. Round it down to $25 even.

I can't believe you would even condsider rounding down a tip when the waitress has been as generous as she was. I think you should really round up to $30, but I like your reasoning otherwise.

I'd give her $25. $22 or 23 is prob fine, though.

Yes, the Billiards' waitresses are worth an extra buck or two per drink. I left $25.

I don't play pool, but they have an elevated bar which affords a nice view of the waitresses working the floor.

The reasoning for the rounding down is that the tip would then be more than the bill, which I have a problem with for some reason.

She told me her name. I'm pretty sure her lips were moving, but all I could see was tits.

give her $30 and ask if she wants to give you the BJ now or later.
