View Full Version : Noob Challenge: 12k in 60 days (day 0)
I loved the old Schneids/Gonores Challenge posts. Now I'm not nearly the player that they are, however, I think setting up a challenge would be beneficial. I play mostly 2/4 limit on Party skins, so I figured 12k would be a good number, since it's 1/5th the money of the 60k challenges. And those guys played 10/20 which is five times what I play in terms of money.
Also, this will force me to log in hours diligently and I hope to become a much better player two months from now (and maybe joining the high rollers at 3/6 /images/graemlins/grin.gif).
I think I can do this 4-tabling 8 hours/day. I'll try to break up the task into two or more sessions per day. I figure an afternoon session for about 3-4 hours, and an equal evening session. I also want to take time out of the day to improve my poker game, so that'll consist of browsing 2+2 & maybe finishing Inside the Poker Mind. I'm worried that I will burn out/get lazy/etc. I'm not sure if I need to schedule days off, or should I just take a day off when I feel like it. Or should I just suck it up and play thru my laziness.
I've been taking poker seriously for about a year on & off, so I'm definitely still relatively new to the game. I think I'm at the level that many SSers & MLers are at. I'd like to take my game up another notch, so I think I need to go about this like a professional and dedicate time & energy to improving.
Since it's August 8th, I think I'll start tomorrow (already procrastinating), and this personal challenge will go on from 8/9/05 - 10/9/05.
If anyone would like to join me in my challenge, so we can support/challenge each other, than plz reply or PM if you'd like.
I'm not so sure I like this idea. Something like 1/4 of the way through, if you are on schedule, you will be way over bankrolled and should move up.

I imagine he can move up during the challenge.
I'm contemplating doing this with you; after the last couple of months I need some motivation to get hands in. I play mostly 5/10, but I two-table at most, so it seems close to a reasonable goal.

I plan on doing this too, 4tabling 3/6 6max and moving up to 5/10 once I regain my confidence/bankroll.
Should be fun.

[/ QUOTE ] I like the idea of moving /images/graemlins/smile.gif. Now I don't know how this will turn out, but one of the reasons for doing this is so I could move up to the 3/6 6-max games with a good bankroll (anyone know how much roll is needed for that game?). I hopefully will be taking shots at that game, but my SH game is non-existant, and I hear the 3/6 full game isn't really worth it. Mainly, by the end of all this, I will be able to look back and say, I'm a much better player than I was when I started, and I got some money to comfortably take shots at the higher games.

You do realize that to accomplish this task means 2k hands a day at 2.5 BB/100 for 60 days. There's a reason schneids and gonores failed in their attempts. Not to be a downer, but I predict a lot of people going cool I'll do this too, and few if any actually succeeding. 3000 BBs in 60 days plain and simple is a shitload.

I'm pretty sure Schneids failed because he's a T-Wolves fan, and thus failure came naturally.
I think I can at least come close at 5/10, and even if it just motivates me to play a load of hands in the first 30 days before giving up, that's fine.

Ya to clarify I will be playing at my own limits
I'd like to participate in the challenge too. Except I will be playing a different number of hands at a different limit with a different monetary target, over a different length of time. Plus I don't want to tell anyone about what happens. OK?
Do it 6 times a year and you've got yourself some mad bank.
I made $15,217 in my first 52 days playing poker online (the only previous poker experience I had was playing $10 tournies against kids in HS) My initial bankroll was $800. You can find my old posts under the name "KyleM" in case ya want to see any of them... I got banned for "namecalling"
Anyway, after I was up 15k, I hit a ridiculous run of bad luck in MTTs and dropped down just under 11k. Anyway, I'm playin 10/20 now and made 4k in the last 4 days, so I'm back up to about 15k profit (over 70 days).
So, it's definitely possible /images/graemlins/cool.gif. Good luck. Catch me playin 10/20 @ party on P0KEMON_SEX, WE_WANT_EZ, or Achilles_0.
PS Fck the mod that banned me.

$12k at 2-4 is 3000 BB, so this is the 3000BB in 60 days challenge (50BB/day). At 2.5BB/100, that's 2k hands per day, or about 60k for the month. I get in about 1700 hands per day -- when I play. I could get 5k in on a Saturday or Sunday if I pushed, but I haven't pushed yet. But I'll join you. I really really want to put more hands in.
DO IT.
As for burn-out: I don't diet; I change my eating habits. Not exactly Atkins (informed more by Nutrient Timing actually) but close enough. Anyway, Saturday is my cheat day. I eat pasta, drink cokes, have ice cream if I feel like it. It is *much* easier to be diligent the rest of the week when I've got that one day scheduled to cheat. Anything I want to cheat on (ie I really really want choco chip cookie dough icecream), I save it for Saturday. In addition to avoiding ketosis, I don't crave junk, and I don't feel like I'm eating cardboard all week.
blah blah. Point being: schedule a day/night off. I have a day job, too, so Friday nights are usually my day off. No poker; just me, my drinking buddies, a buncha chicks to game, and drinks.
Summary: I recommend scheduled off-time.

I'm going to join you as well. I usually play 5/10 6max but I'm only going to shoot for 20k in 60 days. I also play a lot 15/30 live, and I'll be including that. My game is is getting back on track and I wanna start logging a lot of hands again. (heh, too bad I can't include today's results :-p)

A nice start to the challenge, as I played a bunch of short holdem sessions and did well. I've been trying going back to 3-tabling with two Absolute tables and one on Stars, and that's feeling a bit hectic, but doable. I sat down this morning with the intention of playing for a while, then broke both Absolute tables within 20 minutes. Oops.
Anyway, I played 268 hands of holdem for a profit of $428.51. It's always nice to start off running at 16 BB/100. I had AA five times, and it held up all 5.
I also played 1:03 of 2/4 triple draw, which is my second regular game, and made $88.50 mostly headsup. I bombed out before the addon for the first time in the 24h tournament, but I think I'm going to leave 24h results out to avoid currency exchange headaches.
I suspect I'm done with holdem for the day, except maybe for a 2+2 HU match. Will probably play some more TD if I can get a game tonight.

3:17 of further triple draw, up another $44.75. Now I really am done for the day.

I'm aiming for 6k/60 days at 3/6
I don't play nearly as much as most of you, and usually 2table, and work fulltime
but a 1000BB at 2.5/100(not sure if im that good) still works out to 667hands a day, or 40k over the 2months .. which is a lot more than I'm used to playing but motivation is good, and I might be able to move upto 5/10 during this at some point

Day 3 for me was dominated by the Games Grid triple draw tournament. It's interesting playing in a real tournament with long blind levels and deep stacks, which seems to happen rarely online. I took second for a $100 profit after a huge headsup collapse.
Also got in a little Party whoring, to the tune of $62.23, and some TD ring at GG, for $34.50. $196.73 total for Day 3, and $1042.23 so far.
