Since I have been reading here and read some books and played non stop for the last year now. I have really been dominating the home games I play in. Doesnt matter if its tourney or cash/ring games. Anyone else in this same boat?

Be careful. I got banned from almost every home game I used to play in because of that. Now the only home games I can get into are these crappy .05/.10 games. I do it because it's fun to play live. I won't go to FL casinos (10% rake, $2 max bet). So I'm stuck with online or low limit home games. I'm trying to get into a $100 NL home game right now, and if accepted, I think what I'll do is control how much I win. That is, if I'm up $400 in two hours, I'll purposfully play bad and lose a little back (no more than $100).

So long as you are staying under the radar and people aren't unhappy to play against you, you should be fine. Keep raking in the dough. After all... isn't that why you play poker?

Yes!

Since I started reading the board here I have been dominating - specifically how to deal with loose calling stations.

Of course, but the games that we play here are low limit too. No one else really has any kind of BR to play higher limits. Secondly, I'm like you I play for fun in person and the closest casino is 5hrs away. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

No. I host a weekly $5 tournament (during the school year) and I play like a donkey every week.

Yeah, I've been absolutely rolling over my home games for the last year. Luckily, my friends don't seem to care, so I haven't been banned yet.

I started doing a little better when I read Hellmuth's book, but mostly, it's been a combination of watching enough poker to know how to properly play in these situations and a bit of luck.

Yes, my friends all know I'm obsessed with Poker. So I can't get a game going often enough. I think I scared them when I started throwing out percentages while we were watching Poker on TV. We used to do $20 tourny's, but we agreed to just start doing $5 tournaments so I don't take the game that seriously anymore when I'm playing with my friends. It's more of just hang out with the guys, talk $hit and drink. If only I could dominate like this in the poker clubs. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Nope. My home game is a mixed bag, I feel like the best player at the table but I don't dominate. I'm probably running bad though and since I play more hands online in two days than two months of the home its hard to say.

Anyway, we play from 3/6 to 5/10 and occasionally Pot Limit HL. I got stuck $450 at PL one night and so did all the other regulars when this really really loose dude just kept playing every hand and nailing every flop. We played with a $150 max buy-in and after about 9 hours of playing he left with $2250.

Couple weeks ago I got stuck another $450 playing 4/8 because all my made hands got sucked out on and all my draws missed.

All the other times I've ended up slightly or moderately ahead but never huge. The other players in the game called me "Mr. Consistent" which I guess is a compliment.

Its a good game though, a mix of skills, serious but at the same time really comfortable and friendly.

Most of the games I play are such low limits that I get bored and don't play well. I start raising pre-flop with 54s and calling on the button with 73o.

The worst has to be pushing all-in pre-flop for $50 with 88 and getting called by KK. As I said, I get bored as hell.

If you play tourneys, creating a league and recording your tourney results online may give you more incentive to play like a professional no matter what the stakes are.

not really. When we first started playing our bigger (16+ ) tourneys, I did really well (1,2,1,4 first 4 tourneys), have cashed a few times since then, but really ready to win. These guys have gotten to be better tourney players.

Before my home game ended, I definitely won, but I wouldn't say I dominated.... But then again, my game had a half dozen long term online winners and 3 of us were job quiters.

We've been trying to host a monthly game since January...missed a couple months this spring, but we've had four STT's with 8-9 people.

So far I've finished 3-1-1-1. I'd say I'm doing OK /images/graemlins/grin.gif, but the competition is not real stiff.

When I actually care about winning and have a level head, I win pretty consistently. When I relax, drink, and raise just to get a certain response out of people, I either win huge or lose huge.

What blows? Having fun with friends and blowing off some steam? Yeah, how lame of me....

My home games were fun with friends and blowing off steam... until our 5c/10c NL $5 min/max games turned into "give Annorax $100 a night". Then I started teaching people and loaning my friends books. We also started playing games other than Hold'em.

Six months later, they're kicking my ass into the ground, and I've almost lost back everything I won from them.

Once upon a time, I did dominate. When I learned to fold early, I whupped up on everyone for a while. I introduced hold 'em ("What? No wild cards?") and Omaha to the table. Both helped my game. I was the first in the group to start reading RGP, and the first to find the forums here. They helped me, too.

I started sharing information and my competition got better. They started looking for outside information on their own, read books, and got even better. We started keeping score on a web site, and they got better still. Today, I'm usually near the top in the standings, but I've got a lot of skilled competition.

I don't mind, though. When my opponents are better players, my game gets better, and vice-versa. Now, we've got three or four players who are pretty decent all-around poker players, and a few more who are good at their particular game(s). Our game is normally just a $20 buy-in, so the extra buck or three I'd expect to win per week against bad players is far outweighed by the fun I have playing against much more competent ones.

For the most part, yes. But it's all relative -- we play 25c/50c blinds for NL hold 'em and everybody buys in for $10. I consistently cash out with $10-$20 profit. I could probably win more, but I try to grind it out and play conservative to keep them coming back.

My game, 0.25/0.25 NL 40 max? Yes. I take the occasional loss, but I also have some big wins. Yesterday I played poorly. Two bad decisions cost me a total of about $70. I finished up $40.

Another regular game I play in? No, I don't dominate. I'm a winner there, by a solid amount, but it certainly isn't domination.

When we set up a properly structured tournament I usually do great against my friends.

Though typically, we usually start with a small amount of chips and never raise the blinds (i've argued it to no end and they just complain about raising the blinds). In these conditions I only do well if I win the first pot i'm playing in. Once you lose the first hand you're down to a few dollars in chips and have to hope for a good hand to double up on.

No. It's embarrassing. These guys suck. Following a logical progression, I can only assume I suck too.
