View Full Version : Hi OOT, You Give Good Music Advice

So partly due to recommendations I saw in OOT and partly due to Schneids having both these albums on his comp when I was staying by him, and I liked what I heard, I got both The Go! Team album and The Arcade Fire album. I have loved both of these albums, so recommend me some more music along the same line because I don't know much about music outside the mainstream other than some random stuff here and there.

so what else should I get?

I'll second the Out Hud and Wrens recommendation.

EDIT: The Out Hud album you should get is Let Us Never Speak of This Again, but their older S.T.R.E.E.T.D.A.D. is good too.

United State of Electronica has some similarities to the Go! Team, but it is more, well, electronic. I like the song 'La Discoteca' as it reminds me of those crazy singing females in the Go! Team. Not sure if you would like them if you aren't in to dance as much. If you haven't heard of them, the Postal Service and if you like them Death Cad for Cutie. These are both well known indie rock bands.

I rarely listen to anything outside of hip hop, but the soundtrack to Garden State is ridiculously awesome.

Postal Service is decently catchy but DC4C is very very boring and monotonous.

Architecture in Helsinki - In case we die

Bursting with ecstatic intensity and celebratory glee, Australian prog-pop octet Architecture in Helsinki construct ramshackle towers of song with innumerable varieties of instruments and nearly as many vocalists, producing a sound like a third-grade music class let loose in a music instrument warehouse. Absorbing the channel-hopping, micro-editing, multitasking pace of our ADD generation, and eagerly flitting amongst styles and sounds, they're easily likened to bands like Animal Collective and the Fiery Furnaces-- but with songs that come in tightly condensed and addictably accessible three- and four-minute packages, AiH are likely to make fans of anyone turned off by those bands' more sprawling, experimental tendencies (from Pitchforkmedia.com)

Architecture website (http://www.architectureinhelsinki.com/)

Also, pitchfork just broke an awesome new band 'Clap Your Hands Say Yeah' whom i'm sure you'll like. I'm 98% sure you'll love em. You can only order the album from insound.com but you can download 3 full tracks from their website:

Aren't The Avalanches the group who used like 1000 samples or something for their album?

Macdaddy Warsaw
06-23-2005, 12:05 PM
That is them. Did they ever get around to collecting thousands more and making another album? Since I Left You was the tits. Hrm...we're having a party tomorrow and I think I'm just going to play this album instead of making a playlist.

Try entering some rooms first, the indie room will probably be best. Also, wait a while. Also, add things to your wishlist.

I think I'm just about the only person who doesn't like them. But, along slightly similar lines, I love Animal Collective.

Since I've seen no mention of the Decemberists yet, them.

Also, get "Whale Music" by Rheostatics. Came out in '92 but I just discovered it. Excellent.
