mine would definitely have to be the 1 seat...when i'm shitfaced at foxwoods, i love to rap the tokes on the tray and put them in the box myself

At a 10-handed table, I prefer 3 or 8.

If I sit down at the first hand I try to get the 1 seat most of the time. Where I play this allows me to have my back to the wall so no spectators and I can see the board well. It also lets me talk to the dealers pretty easily which is always nice.

Of course the best seat moves around so I try to be on the right of the maniac after the game gets moving.

The 3 and 4 seats are the worst, same with 7 and 8 because sometimes I cannot see the board very well. Tonight I was in the 2 seat and I missed a bet because I didn't notice that the board paired to give me a full house to be the other guys obvious flush. That's what I get for sleeping with my contacts in this afternoon.

Wait, you want to be on his right? So that whenever you call, you have to wonder if he's going to raise? So that whenever you play a hand with him (which is often) he'll have position on you?

I think you must have meant on his left. It's pretty hard to isolate the maniac if there are 8 players acting between you.

If he's someone who loves to raise any hand, then being on his right is fine. This allows you to lead and have him raise to face the field with 2 cold when you need protection, and check-raise to trap when you flop a monster.

I have to go with the 5 or 6 seat with the longer tables... It's easier to see the board, and those who have cards in the 1 and 10 seats. Nothing worse than sitting in either the 1 or 10 seats, and continually acting out of turn because you can't see the opposite side's cards...

I hate 1 and 9 (at CP, the tables seat 9), mostly because I feel cramped in the space next to the dealer, and hit my knees of the drop boxes.

No question about it - 3 or 8.....

The five or six seat for me. Right in front of the flop and I can sit back and relax in the chair. No need to reach over the table or squinting to see what hit on the river.

I need to start engaging my brain before posting. That's what I get for posting at 3 in the morning. Of course I mean left.. I want him on my right. I don't hate money enough to sit in the worst seat. :P

as a left-hander, i like the ten seat. in the one seat my chips are really close to the dealer and sometimes they get knocked over. i like the one-ten seats the most because they are more out of the action and it doesn't feel like people are staring at you as much. the two-nine seats qualify for this too, but it is harder to see the board from there.

I absolutely hate the five seat. In So Cal, the table is 9 handed. The five seat is usually scrunched in to begin with so you start out with too little space. Then, you have to be careful about exposing your cards to the players on both sides.

I love the 3 and seven seat. I can see every one very easily. It is easy to look at my cards w/o exposing them. I also think it's easier to project an aggressive, confident image from this seat.

I wear glasses. Those of you that can't see the board well from the elbow seats, you may want to consider an eye exam.

i put 10 because i love when i get excited and kick my knee up a little, and then shatter my knee against the rakebox and bit my lip holding back tears

If he's a predictable maniac, *always* betting raising, then either being on his right or left is fine for the reasons given above, that is, that its easy to manipulate the table through his bets and raises. Being on his left is somewhat better for positional advantage, but being on his right isn't awful.

If he's an unpredictable maniac, betting and raising often but not always, you're better off being on his left. That way you have position and can use him to manipulate the table, knowing his action before you act.

This is precisely why the 5 seat is the best seat on the table. Take care to protect your own hand, but take advantage of the many players in the 6 and 4 seat who do not. I like to lean back in the chair and pretend to stretch to get a quick glimpse. This works particularly well with older male players, who have that weird way of lifting both cards up sideways on the table.

Why is the three seat so popular? I choose it because I can see the whole table, but you can do the same thing in the eight seat.

In the 3 seat, you have the best view of the people who will act right before you (the 1 and 2 seats). In the 8 seat, you can see the 7 right next to you, but its harder to see the 6 as the 7 is in the way.

Never had a problem seeing the 6 from the 8. I like 8 better than the 3 because I can see the 3-7 seats with no dealer obstructing my view. From the 3 seat the dealer often blocks my view of 9 & 10. Conversely the 1 & 2 are tough to see from the 8, but they aren't acting just in front of me.

I play 10-handed, so I like the 5/6 which are basically equal. I think the 3/8 are good too, because they give an excellent view of the whole table. I think I might start bringing my glasses for when I sit in the 3/8 (I'm 20 years old... how pathetic).

The 4/7 seats are HORRIBLE. You head is turned to the side for the entire time, since the board and most of the players are off to your left (4) or right (7). I once sat in the 4 for an all-nighter, and I had to go to the general store for some Advil to get to sleep.

The one seat has it's merits too as long as the dealer has his toke box on the other side. But I'm a little guy, I can see a big guy hating the one seat.

#5 you could throw the tokes into the pockets of the dealers.
Then again you could get tossed out.
Middle positions where I can see everyone better.

In what position are you immune from getting drinks spilled on you? I got hit three times (#2, #5, #8) in three nights at the end of May.

Don't you think this is pretty far across the line? I mean, you aren't talking about an accidental glimpse here, but actively trying to look at someone's cards.

If you're trying to pick up tells, wouldn't it be better to have a good look at those acting after you? (I've seen it recommended in a couple places to look at those behind you, at least preflop.)

I agree with Dynasty -- #3 or #8

I can see almost everyone at the table without having
to turn/stretch my neck

Depending on the table, generally the 8 is golden because you're right on the lower right edge of the curve (assuming the dealer is at 6 o'clock). If you're on that curve in the right spot, not only can you see the rest of the table, but you can also look left before acting without turning your head and making it obvious you're looking left.

I am surprised that 3 has overtaken 8 by 50%. I like the 8, but the 3 and 8 give the same perspective. And if its a new game the 3 pays blinds sooner. For that reason I am going to have to overrule the Poll and declare the 8 the winner

No. It is the player's duty to protect his cards. I can protect mine. If those around me cannot protect theirs, I will arb that information.
