The purpose of this poll is to discover whether or not The Royal Tenenbaums truly is a "love it or hate it" movie. I have heard it called this many times, and while I do indeed love the movie, I think it is possible to harbor neutral feelings toward it.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I think this is a great film and the suicide scene is one of the better-done scenes I've seen in the past few years.

Spectacular movie, although Wes Anderson has done better films.

What other films has he done? Besides the Life Aquatic, which I'm not even sure was his film but I think it was.

It didn't have enough Bill Murray.

Hated it, but so many people liked it I feel like I might have missed something about it. Either way I was pretty stoned when I saw it in the theater and thought it was dumb.

There's a lot of very subtle humor. The first time I saw it I was meh. By about the third or fourth time I thought it was hilarious, and now after probably six or seven viewings it's one of my favorite comedies ever.

I had quite a different reaction. I've also had similar reactions to Wes Anderson's other movies. First time I saw it, I thought it was one of the funniest movies I had ever seen. 2nd and future times, I thought the movie was very sad, I was boderline crying at points.

I think the first hour of this movie is on par to be the best comedy of all time, but after that it slows down a bit. All in all it's still a great movie IMO, but the second half makes the movie feel like a waste of potential.

Hated it. Mainly because I thought it was massively disappointing after Rushmore. If it was by some director i'd never heard of, maybe I'd have hated it less or even liked it. I've only watched it once; I should really get round to watching it and the Big Lebowski again to check if I'm right about the films I end up in the most arguments about (hate them both, everyone else seems to love them).

Also the point about it lacking in Bill Murray screentime is a good one.

I didn't like Lebowski the first time I saw it, but liked it more the second time and have liked it more each time I've seen it, which means I now love it.

I loved it. I think it was better than Bottle Rocket and the best one so far. I haven't seen Life Aquatic yet.

The finger cut off scene was the best. I couldn't stop laughing.

I got to netflix that movie again.

I consider it my favorite movie ever at this point.

I loved it the first time I saw it and continued loving it through about six or seven subsequent viewings. However, now that I've seen it about 12 times, I will probably never watch it again if I can help it.

Well I think this poll has established that The Royal Tenenbaums is indeed NOT a "Love It or Hate It" movie, seeing as how about a third of resident OOT posters feel "Meh" about it.

Anyway, I really, really liked the first scene in Eli's apartment. For some reason or another, I find the conversation that Richie and Eli have about nothing ("Huh?" "What?" "What did you just say?" "When, just now?") absolutely hilarious. Not to mention, of course, the paintings in Eli's apartment. Most interesting of all, I think, is the fact that Eli has two enormous stacks of black porn just laying around.

I guess it's just little things like those that make me love this movie.

Meh

A few hilarious moments scattered throughout an otherwise underacheiving movie.
