Haven't played tourneys for a while, because I often get bad beat, but decided to play one tonight. 30+3. Still early in the tourney, 3 players all in on the flop including me. Flop is A74. BB has 74o. MP has AJo. I have A7s. Turn comes J. Instead have 3X chips to work with, I went busted. I hate tournaments...

Want feedback or just venting???

If you hate sngs, you must hate all types of poker and gambling (inc investing) in general. Bad beats happen.

Yeah, I hate it when my A7 gets beat by AJ. It's those types of miraculously horrible beats that make me think on-line poker is rigged.

You had 74% equity in the pot. It's annoying, but it's not exactly a bad beat.

As far as I can tell, you would have lost money on that hand whether it was a tournament or not.

Just venting. It's just frustrating when you are making the right play, but still come out losing.

Without further context, it is impossible to tell whether or not you made the right play here.

The annoying thing about tournaments is all it takes is one bad beat, then all that time and efforts are wasted (well, sng is not as bad, because it's shorter).

I look at it the other way.

Pity those poor 2/4 players who have a bad start, lose $150 and can only bet $4 a time to get it back /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

yct,

What position were you in? It's quite possible you should not have been in the hand in the first place.

That is exactly why I love sngs. The most I can lose on any one hand is $33 (in raw profits, not potential prize money).

You had 74% equity in the pot. It's annoying, but it's not exactly a bad beat.

According to the poker calculator, my hand should win about 75% of the time, so you are correct about not exactly a bad beat, because they have 5 outs against my hand on both the turn and river.

As for the person saying A7s is not a hand to play and see the flop cheaply in sng's, he's probably playing too tight.

Then I'm playing too tight.

Again, do you remember what position you were in?

Only situation I can think of playing this is in SB with odds to let me check out the flop for flush potential?

This isn't why you hate tourneys. You could count on one hand the times your top 2 pair was up against bottom two pair and you got rivered by yet a bigger two pair.
But I'd probably need an abacus to count the times you limped in with Ax/Kx only to wind up outkicked or outhanded. THAT is why you hate tourneys.

Why are you playing A 7 early in the tournament?

Im with you. Depends on how early it is and what position Im in, but I usually throw away A7o. Maybe im too tight.
