I'm taking a vacation at the end of this month and am looking for a place to go. Any good places to play 10-20 Holdem or 8 or Better Split in Atlantic City, Foxwoods, St.Louis, or any Michigan Casinos. I'm interested if the places have any good hotels to stay in also. Any suggestions welcome.

Good Luck

Does this mean that you have already excluded playing 3-6 in Bettendorf, or 1-2 at Catfish Bend in Ft Madison?

Seriously, try St Louis. Harrahs has nice hotel and cardroom with 10-20 on weekends. Ameristar (another nice facility) a couple miles away with 10-20, 20-40 almost always available. Downtown by the Arch, theres kind of a yucky facility - but you have to go there too to make your St Louis visit complete.

Check the archives in the B & M forum for some write ups on St Louis poker during the past 6 months or so.

The biggest downside of going to St Louis is that its only another 4 hours drive to get to Tunica.

Mark, I'm on the verge of a poker road trip driving to Kansas City, Council Bluffs, and Tama.

Mark,

Come to Foxwoods. We can go to the movies in Providence!

It's the end of October for gods sakes. The leaves are all gone in the north and it's getting cold.

Go to Vegas!

I concur with the other poster on St. Louis. Harrah's has a fairly decent hotel, and The Range is a decent restaurant there. The poker room at Ameristar is decent. Harrah's just opened right before I moved a couple of months ago so I never made it there. Contrary to what the other poster said, I've heard you're missing anything by not goign downtown to play.

You should know there is a state law limiting losses. I think the max is $500/hour? I don't know if that would sway you. Anyone know for sure?

Do not go to Tahoe.

Jimbo,

Tahoe is two far away. I did go to Harvey's about 10 years ago when I was on a business trip and stayed there for the weekend.

Barry,

Since poker is played indoors it does not matter what the temperature is outside. I'm tired of the hassle of airport security and Vegas is too far to drive. But, I will probably be out their for WSOP next year.

Abe,

I gave up any poker lower than 6-12. With the exception of 8 or Bettor Split, because you can make money at any limit in this game.

If I end up going to St.Louis, I will probably be taking my mom with me since she is a Diamond Club member at Harrah's. But, I'm thinking of going out east this trip.

Good Luck

John,

I'm planning on going to AC first, it's about a 16 hour drive and I can do that in a day. Where is a good place place to stay by foxwoods? I'd probably be in AC on Oct 29, 30, and 31 and drive up to the woods on the 1st and stay a couple of days. I'd like to play that tues night tournament that fossilman always used to play.

Any information on hotels and about the evening tournaments is appreciated.

Good Luck

Mark

go to foxwoods and give us a report on john cole. is he really a nerd? we are all on the edge of our seats.
when i was there i just stayed at foxwoods. its not cheap but you are right there.
make sure you go into mystic and eat breakfast at chicken little. be prepared to wait if you go late. it is a small place just as you get to town. great breakfast. plus there are two good italian restaurants in the town. one on the left as you go in, and the other around the corner from it.
the movie mystic pizza was filmed at the mystic pizza there, but the pizza sucks. might be up your alley:)

You won't have much luck playing in the Tuesday night tournament on Nov. 2. However, there will be a nice little $1000 buyin NLH event that morning at 10am. Don't forget, the World Poker Finals starts Oct. 15 through Nov. 17.

Pretty hard to get a poker rate at this point in time for those dates, as those rooms are long sold out. There are alternatives, but having lived here and never "stayed" here, I don't know which hotels are good deals and which are not.

Good luck, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Of course he is, but we love him anyway.

If you're going to look this place up in Yahoo yellow pages or the like, you'll have better luck searching for Kitchen Little. At least, I know of a place with that name, but I've never seen this chicken little restaurant Ray likes so much.

I have no idea which places Ray is referring to here. Really.

There are other good places to eat, but for the most part, you'll be coming here for the poker, or to see the colors.

If you are a true degenerate gambler I can't think of a better place than to be shacked up at the Commerce Crowne Plaza for about a week. Poker rate is cheap and they will call your room when a seat opens up.

Greektown's 10/20 game is pretty damn soft, by all accounts (I just don't have the roll for it). They also have a 20/40, which I knew very little about. There is an occasional PL Omaha game that get a ludicrous amount of action as well.

I would like I can say that one day that a 1000$-buy in tournement is little one .

Try the AmericInn in Griswold, CT about 8 miles from FW and its brand new and the rates are reasonable.

Ray, I agree Mystic Pizza is horrible - the best pizza in the U.S. is 1 hr south of Foxwoods in New Haven. Try Sally's or Pepe's on Wooster St. for the best coal oven baked pizza. Even New Yorkers admit this pizza is the best. Get there early - it's the only place that's full the minute it opens.

Ray,

Thanks for letting me know the places to avoid. It's just the response I expected to hear from someone that enjoys eating at Costco.

Greg,

Thanks for your reply. I'm going to do a little internet searching to find a hotel and see what is available in the area.

when i visited last year, we pricelined a 3 or 4 star motel/hotel and ended up getting a $110 room for like $45. Even the desk guy said people have to be crazy to pay full price, when they can just get a cheaper room online. heh. the room was nice and clean, but nothing spectacular. unfortunately i can't remember the name of the place.

they have a shuttle to and from foxwoods, but it stops running after midnight and we were forced to call a cab, which was around $20 if i remember correctly.

it was about 15 miles northwest of foxwoods and mohegan sun, but the drive was nice. although i know mohegan sun has no poker room, you should maybe drive by and check it out. it's kinda neat sitting right by a lake.

good luck

/images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/club.gif i stayed at a motel about 8 miles from foxwoods..called something like top of the hill..wasn't too bad and only about 100/nite... also a restaraunt right across street from said motel had ok breakfast...

warning about foxwoods poker casino..when i was there on weekend; it was unbelievably crowded with huge waiting lists for most or all games...

i would go to ac..i hear the waitresses at borgata are nice..

Mark:

There is a Motel6 on I 95 about 15 miles from FW.

There is a place that I am curious about. It's, I think, a B+B. I have had lunch there but have never stayed there.

It is called Randall's Ordinary and has the atmosphere of colonial times. Probaly moderate pricey. It is on R2 within a mile or 2 from I 95 (c 10 mi from FW). There is only 1 small sign that is easy to miss.
