View Full Version : Skill level between PP $3-6 & $5-10 (full)

We talked about $2-4 v. $3-6 and people had some interesting comments. How about the $3-6 compared to the $5-10? If $1-2 is any indication, I would expect a bigger jump in skill level since many of the fish play 6-max.

Anybody made this jump recently?

By the time you're ready to move to 5/10, you should be able to scout the games yourself. Honestly.

I have. The only difference I have noticed is there is a bit more check raising and check raise bluffs. If you are winning at 3/6 then I don't see any reason that you wouldn't be at 5/10

play during the evening
dont bother during the day
be ready to leave if you the table is noticeably bad...which can be quite often
play your best 3/6 game and youll be fine

the level of play is more agressive and quite a bit tighter, but youll find out soon enough

Here's the link to the forum search. (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/search.php?Cat=)

Do a search for (using the quotation marks)

+"3-6" +"5-10"

Check the box for "Subject only." This will find posts whose subject line contains the phrase "3-6" and "5-10".

Set the forum to "All forums" or "Small Stakes," depending on your preference.

I'd set the date range to newer than 1 year.

This is very good advice and entirely consistent with my recent water-testing.

I've been playing the 5-10 6 max games lately and they're all ridiculously great (albeit very swingy). why bother with the 10 handed games if they're like that?

I haven't noticed them to be like that. I haven't had a problem finding a table with 5 or 6 seeing the flop mosts hands.

Why are the shorthanded games so much better?

Part of my bankroll getting annihilated was the PP $5-10 6 max. I just started out on a downswing and had to drop in limit before I busted out. I would prefer to hit my next 6-max run starting at 500 BB. This is less of an ROR issue than one where I feel I can play well without dropping in limit even at the end of a 300+ BB downswing.

I'll win that faster at $5-10 full than $3-6 full, though I've considered raiding the $3-6 tables with 4+ players absent/afk.

just out of curiosity, how big a downswing did you have? I've been told not to worry about < 200BB downswings as they're very typical. I don't have that many hands at 5/10 6 max yet though. 500BB is a standard roll for short, right?

It was something under 150 BB, but it was extremely fast. This wouldn't have been a problem except that I simultaneously had a very bad run in $10-$20 & $20-40 live games in some kill pots. It doesn't take many big $15-30 & $30-60 hands lost to badly exacerbate a bad $5-10 run.

My general rule for full games now is to have a 400 BB BR, just to support optimal play. I dropped about 60 BB in $2-4 yesterday, and it didn't bother me.
