I'm glad that this worked out well for you.

I don't believe this to be such an easy call. I think it's
incorrect to assume that if villian has a real hand he'll checkraise and if he has air he'll push. I have not tracked
this number but I would venture to say that against the average villian when they push they generally have a hand.
However, having said all this, if we look at your chip stack
and factor in how often you'll improve your hand if your behind, plus how often you're ahead to begin with, the correct play to me at least is not real obvious.

But you're not the villian and most players don't think, fortunately, like you, so I'll reluctantly fold.

Why not call preflop?
Hit the 9 or fold after flop.
When you raised him he had half his stack in the pot, the only move he had to win it was to go all in after flop which you werent prepared for.
You should of put him allin if you decided to raise him, it should scare off the others and you are guaranteed to see all five cards.
if you lose the showdown you still have around 8k anyway or if he folds preflop you pockets around 2k.
EDIT: folding has it advantages coz you wouldnt be putting yourself in a 55:45 against overcards.

fold with the 2 overcards on the board. if villain had QJ or 2 spades, then good for him. fold.

Your putting in 27% of the pot and you have a 10% chance of winning if villain has a higher pair. I think you are pot committed. Villain was also pot committed and should push with anything. This could easily be a stop and go.

Bingo-bango!

I think this is a stop and go with a low-mid PP a decent % of the time. I can remember at least a few times I have seen something similar. Generally you see this from the blinds, but it isnt out of the question.

I forgot to look at the exact stack sizes, but I am adding at least a 10-15% chance we have him crushed here
