Re: First Week as a Bally\'s Poker Dealer (Great Stories) Long!
[ QUOTE ]
-- Players are much better tippers in the lower limits than the NL games. I'm not saying the NL players are bad tippers, but the low limit player who wins a 15 dollar pot will give you a buck as the NL player will win 400 bucks and give you the same about...I guess it's all relative [/ QUOTE ] Do you work harder when the pot size is bigger which would in turn justify a larger tip? I doubt it. |

Yeah, don't forget that it's the casino that pays us dealers, and, therefore, we're not allowed to suggest a rake reduction; that has to come from the players.
(Working at a casino in Laughlin, though, we're a little looser.. we have one dealer that will tell the table to ask for it Yes, he's been reprimanded for it.. yes, I think he still does it.) |

Re: First Week as a Bally\'s Poker Dealer (Great Stories) Long!
I'll add a semi-fun story (as one person pointed out, after a while it's more like, "yeah, yeah, seen it all...").
Hosting a private NLHE tournament for a club and I push in to deal to them for the first time. Now I recall overhearing the TD list the hand values for the players, but it's still funny to see this stuff in action (for example someone min reraising a minimum bet with the busted draw on the end..like someone's not going to call for one more -grin-). Hand of interest was 2 hearts with the K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] on the flop. SB flashes cards to woman behind him (he's already been warned about consulting with the woman on what to do.. but since this is a private tournament, as long as the players are not upset -- and they aren't -- we don't really do much but warn). SB checks, and it gets checked around. On the turn is the J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], SB checks, someone bets min bet (90% of the time, it was a min bet even though they were playing NL), and everyone called. T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] on river, and SB checks again. Again someone min bets and everyone just calls. I ask for hands and look for who has a heart to complete a flush... QT not heart, ok, you have pair of tens... ok, someone has the 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], ok, we got one flush here.. SB finally turns over his cards to me and looks at me like, "do I win?", I first see the Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], then I also see the 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] .. he had the flush on the turn, then rivered the K-high straight flush, and CHECK-CALLED! Gotta love the new players |

Re: First Week as a Bally\'s Poker Dealer (Great Stories) Long!
I try to run the game the same way whether the pot is 4 bucks or 400 bucks...you owe to the players...so to answer your question I work equally hard no matter the limits or the pot size. but I don't subconsciously work harder in large pots for a bigger tip.

Re: First Week as a Bally\'s Poker Dealer (Great Stories) Long!
I appreciate your honesty and that is the reason why I tip dealers $1 even on big pots. However I do sometimes tip a dealer even if I don't have any winners during their push. I always get strange looks when I throw a dealer a couple chips when they leave the table after they dealt me no winners. But really they worked hard and I appreciate them running a good game.

Re: First Week as a Bally\'s Poker Dealer (Great Stories) Long!
Working Harder on NL vs. 3/6 or 4/8...
Well let's see.. More likely to have to count down all the chips of the player at the NL tables.... Do all the math for the players, let them know how much more they need to call, as opposed to dealing in multiples of 3 or 4.... Then, like two hands I had on the NL tonight.. having to stack up over 400 in chips... and split the pot..... no tip from either player on one of those.. 1 buck from one of the players on the other... In the time it took to get through both of those hands, I could have dealt 3 more at a low limit game and maybe have been tipped 3 more bucks... Some NL games we do work harder.... Pokermama |

Which dealing school did you use if I may ask balt? A few friends are moving out to Vegas, and I am deciding if it would be financially reasonable to go out and deal for a living while playing on the side.
