Re: bankroll size
$500 minimum. At least 20 buy-ins is the general rule for NL. You might can get away with 10-15 buy-ins, but it's not recommended. Hell.. I started off with $10.

Re: bankroll size
Do you want to multi-table? I multi-table 4 $200 buy-in games and keep about $2500-$3000 in my roll. I don't think there's a specific amount of buy-ins that you need...just play somewhere that you feel comfortable, but you are also excited, challenged, and motivated to play. Good luck to you Mycroft

Re: bankroll size
Where do you get 20 buy-ins from? I think that's a little unnecessary.

Re: bankroll size
Whatever the point is where dropping 1 buy-in doesn't phase you at all. I have 15 buyins for the game I play right now and I feel comfortable with that. Its all up to you.

Re: bankroll size
This has been addressed in the FAQ that some have recently been trying to put together and finalize. If you are playing a ring game there is less variance and you can probably get away with a smaller bankroll at 10 buy-ins, for six max 20 is better to cover the variance.
