the perfect storm, not blowing my way.
two hands here, same table, same opponent, about five minutes apart, conspired to rob me of most of a buy in, something that hasn't happened in a long time...
from memory, so only the important details: Crypto 1/2 stud .25 ante .50 bring in seat1 [xx]Js seat2 [xx]4h seat3 [xx]? hero [Kd Ah] Kh seat5 [xx] Qh seat6 [xx]? seat1 ________call seat2 bringsin___call seat3 call________fold hero raise seat5 call seat6 fold Seat1 [xx]Js Qs ________re-raise Seat2 [xx]4h 8h _________fold Hero [Kd Ah] Kh 6s bets____call Seat5 [xx] Qh Td raise___call Ok, what's going on... i am now confused, i'd had seat 1 read as a rock, but he's now betting... a four flush? two pair (unlikely, imo)... seat 5 is a LAG hack, i'm not worried about him yet. Seat 1 [xx]Js Qs Ks_____raise Hero [Kd Ah] Kh 6s 2d____fold Seat5 [xx] Qh Td Qd bets__call so i've gotta fold, this, right? i, mean, i've got live aces, but dying kings, a very probable straight or flush out already, and at least two pair coming from seat 5, right? anywhoo, seat 5 check called all the way down after that and his naked pair of queens took it. seat one had THREE to a Sf, that's IT! D'oh! i did make the right fold, though, right? right? i have an disproportionate fear of being weak/tight... ok ok, now i'm thinking seat 1 is a mainiac. i hadn't gotten a good read before because i'd only been at that table for like ten hands, but now i know. time to sit and wait for the big ones... five minutes later.... Seat one [xx]7h bring in____call Seat two [xx]9d call_________call Seat three[xx]? fold Hero [Qd Qh] Jd raise seat five fold seat six fold 4th: Seat one [xx] 7h 9h Call Seat two [xx] 9d J Fold Hero [Qd Qh] Jd As Bet all going according to the script... 5th: Seat 1 [xx] 7h 9h 7s bet____re-raise____call Hero [Qh Qd] Jd As Qc raise___re-raise keep in mind that this is crypto, so no cap HU... 6th: Seat 1: [xx] 7h 9h 7s Kc____check____raise_____re-raise Hero: [Qd Qh] Jd As Qc 2c____bet______re-raise___huh? call. 7th: Seat 1: [xx]7 9 7 K [x] bet_____re-raise_____re-raise Hero [QQ] J A Q 2 [2] raise____re-raise_____call final pot: @28BB I was a little scared of Kings full on the end, but he just called instead of reraiseing on third, and i thought 777 was his hand, or, if i was really lucky, 7's full. results and a queation in white: Seat 1 shows 7777. dammit. my question is this: how could i have gotten away from this hand? imay have been able to just check-call onmn 6th and 7th, MAYBE, had he not displayed some mainiacal play on that other hand. was i too aggressive? to loose? did i get OUTPLAYED (he said: 'had it on 5th'- i don't know if i buy that.)? what? ...or did i just get fisted by the stud gods on these two? |

Re: the perfect storm, not blowing my way.
Before reading the results, I lay down the first hand on fifth as well. You should be crushed. On the second hand, I think you put in the appropriate amount of action. You're representing something that beats Sevens-full, and opponent is telling you that he has more than that.

Comment on the results, also in white:
Sometimes you just have to lose a lot of chips on a hand. If you're up against someone who is hopelessly weak-tight and won't put in big action without a monster, maybe you save a bet or two, but really, if you can't put in a lot of money with Queens-full, you can't play. |

Re: the perfect storm, not blowing my way.
you're right, looking at from a couple hours away, it's just some bad luck/beats.
i really had a feeling that i'd screwed something up after that session. feels like i got milked, reads were of, play was transparent, etc. i'll just throw these in the 'cost of doing business' file and be done with it. |

Re: the perfect storm, not blowing my way.
The way I see it, this was your 'conversation':
In white: 5th: you: I can beat your possible trip sevens. Raise. him: Possible?? I really have them, and I don't think you would have raised on 3rd with a straigh draw. Reraise. you: Ha, ha. You are right! I didn't have a straight draw, and I don't have a straight now--but I can beat your trip sevens. Reraise you back. him: Ooops! Ok, I call (assumed since he can't reraise you). 6th: him: Ok, I'll check to the last raise. you: I told you: I can beat trip 7's. Bet. him: Ha ha! I made a full house, which can beat any higher trips you might have. I know you can't have a full house with no pairs showing on 6th street. I check raise you. What a sweet play! you: What? I can't hear you--my favorite song is playing on my Ipod:.... I'm a maniac... maniiiiac.' Reraise. him: Wow! You can't have me beat. Reraise. you: What???! Great song! I reraise...ooops, there are only 3 raises allowed. Ok, I call. What a pot! I can't wait to tell my girlfriend about my trip queens! 7th: you: Bingo! Queens full!! I can't lose....I'm a maniaaac.... him: Bet. you: Raise. I filled up. Suck on those trip 7's. (Luxuriating in a rush of endorphins, you turn up the volume on your Ipod.) him: I can beat a full house. Reraise. you: What? I'm a maniaaaac....Maaaaniac. Reraise. him: Wow. Did you make quads? Maybe I should just call you. Hidden quads....hhhmm. I'll try one more raise. Reraise. you: What the??!! (as you quickly turn the volume off on your Ipod). What's going on? Did you make Kings full? Uh oh..something doesn't feel right. I call. Tough one to lose...but I think you could have saved yourself a couple of bets. The question is not whether you can get away from your hand, but whether you lost less than your opponent would have lost with a similar hand. |
