Should I have raised more?
I'm gonna beat my head against the monitor...
What was the correct way to play this hand? Obv. I coulda raised preflop but I knew someone would do that for me. I wanted to raise the pot enough to where I would get paid if AK didnt come or lay my hand down if it didnt. Any input I appreciate. 10+1 Level 1 Pokerstars PokerStars Game #2209998800: Tournament #10400677, Hold'em No Limit - Level I (10/20) - 2005/07/28 - 19:59:45 (ET) Table '10400677 101' Seat #3 is the button Seat 1: GroundsKepr (1720 in chips) Seat 2: samand (1300 in chips) Seat 3: macthemaster (1760 in chips) Seat 4: Zen Badger (1490 in chips) Seat 6: zhgzstein (810 in chips) Seat 7: krazeekay (1220 in chips) Seat 8: riverknight (4800 in chips) Seat 9: rickstere25 (1620 in chips) Zen Badger: posts small blind 10 zhgzstein: posts big blind 20 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to GroundsKepr [Qd Qs] krazeekay: calls 20 cheeshation is connected riverknight: calls 20 rickstere25: folds GroundsKepr: calls 20 samand: raises 60 to 80 macthemaster: folds Zen Badger: folds zhgzstein: folds krazeekay: folds riverknight: calls 60 GroundsKepr: raises 320 to 400 samand: calls 320 riverknight: calls 320 *** FLOP *** [Td 5h 2c] riverknight: checks GroundsKepr: bets 700 samand: raises 200 to 900 and is all-in riverknight: raises 3500 to 4400 and is all-in GroundsKepr: calls 620 and is all-in *** TURN *** [Td 5h 2c] [8h] *** RIVER *** [Td 5h 2c 8h] [3d] *** SHOW DOWN *** riverknight: shows [Ts 2s] (two pair, Tens and Deuces) GroundsKepr: shows [Qd Qs] (a pair of Queens) GroundsKepr said, "102" riverknight collected 840 from side pot samand: shows [Kd Qh] (high card King) GroundsKepr said, "come on" riverknight collected 3950 from main pot CVAce is connected *** SUMMARY *** Total pot 4790 Main pot 3950. Re: Should I have raised more?
When the action makes it back around to you on the flop, there is t230 in the pot (assuming I added correctly). I think conventional wisdom says to essentially reraise the total of the original raise plus the pot (i.e., 60+230=290). That's kinda the general guideline that I follow and probably would have made it about 300 to go.
So, no, I don't think that you raised too little. If anything your raise normally would discourage any action for your great hand, so you might tone it down a little next time. You got donked, that's all. You got exactly what you wanted , planned, and hoped for. It just didn't work out in the end. Next time just make your standard pf raise with QQ and hope someone comes over the top. Limp RRing with QQ during the first 4-5 levels of any tourney is just asking for trouble. |
