How are these charity games legal? [/ QUOTE ] they are legal so long as 100% of the rake goes to a charity. most operators seem to have a conceptual problem understanding 100% tho. |

[/ QUOTE ] Good lord, ask a simple question and you come across the seediest sides of gambling life around the country. Well it darn sure is interesting how this works, I must admit it's quite a bit better than what happens in the undergrounds of Houston, Dallas, and Austin. I really do like playing in a state that has legal casinos, that are well run(mostly) and regulated. |

Location: OH Date: 9/8/2005 Source: Columbus Dispatch Sounds like a regular game to me. Also, for those who may be interested, check out the Blackjack. No joke, they used to play 2 deck shoes with Casino rules (pushes on all hands 17-21, doubles allowed, splits, etc.) I played a couple times just to win my buy in at 5/10. Not too shabby. -ryan |

Re: Card Rooms near Columbus Ohio?
Victor while its true that the cops will only hassle the organizers, if they come in and "sting" the joint, don't they confiscate all chips that are on the table, and hence, all the players' money as well?
They were doing that a year ago. Are most of the charity games in Cleveland "safe" now? |

[/ QUOTE ] They're definitely legal; I believe it's statewide. There is a company here that runs charity tourneys ( Reece's Online ) and they had a tournament shut down over the summer because the organization had exceeded its allotted number of charity gambling events (I think for the month, but I'm not sure of the time period). |

They're definitely legal; I believe it's statewide. [/ QUOTE ] The games as run are illegal. It is legal to have the poker games if they dont' make any money. TYpically what they do is they wrote down half of what is dropped and give that to the charity and keep the other half off the book to pay people. They typically snatch double or triple rake from each pot so the shortfall doesn't show up on the books (and so they make more moeny). |
