Re: Open Raise (Definitive Poll)
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] youre one of these guys who values QJo more than KTo? [/ QUOTE ] UTG in most games, yes. [/ QUOTE ] I saw that I was spewing with QJo and slowed down with it a lot. I still open KTo at most tables. I have no idea if this is logically consistant, but it's been working. |

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)

I think it's tough to argue QJo is stronger than QTs. Krishan [/ QUOTE ] Can someone with pokerstove run a quick comparison of those hands? I recently got the program and just tried doing it for the first time, but I'm doing something wrong. |

Re: Open Raise (Definitive Poll)
agreed, table texture and more importantly the number of players are huge considerations...

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
I voted with the majority on every single option except QJo.
I really like QJo utg. Over my 40k hands recorded in pt, QJo utg is a significant winner. |

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
My answers and some thoughts.
QTs - raise JTs - raise (not standard) T9s - fold (raise occasionally for shania) QJo - fold (raise 25 percent of the time. This is a decent opening hand in MP/CO though) KTo - fold A9o - fold ATs - raise A8s - raise A7s - fold (raise tighter games. I usually open this down to A5s in MP though) 66 - raise 55 - fold (raise 25-50 percent of the time) 77 - raise 44 - fold KJo - raise 27o - I would rather shania raise one of the hands listed, like T9s or 55. (Ditto. This hand is complete crap and will be folded on the flop most of the time. Id rather open the pot in CO or Button with it though) |

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
This is true, and I might be results-orientated in this regard, but so far its working for whatever reason

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)

[ QUOTE ] i voted with the majority on all but the first 4. as a default i fold the first 3 and raise QJo. maybe that doesn't make sense. [/ QUOTE ] I think it's tough to argue QJo is stronger than QTs. Krishan [/ QUOTE ] Well, this is just speculation, but because utg raises generally have fewer callers than other raises you are more likely to be headsup (or vs just 2 others). The slightly greater highcard strength combined with better straight possibilities might outweigh the lack of suitedness in these situations. |

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
40k divided by 6 = 6666 times hes been UTG in a 6max game (if he has 40k hands of 6max, but hes got alot of 5/4/3 handed im sure).
so say hes been dealt the utg spot 6666 times. the odds of getting QJo are 1/110.5 i believe. 6666/110.5 = 60 times. hes been dealt QJo 60 times UTG AT MOST and probably hasnt even raised every single time. hardly enough to calculate a winrate of a hand. thats like saying i played 60 hands of poker today, won 5BB/100 i obviously must rule at poker. |

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
Go here. Pokerroom Stat/calc page
Based on all the hands played at pokerroom. A huge database of hands. you can input the hand, how many player at the table, position, etc...and QTs has a higher EV then QJo. In first position in a 6 handed game QTs has an EV of +.40. QJo in the same positon has an EV of -.03. Basically a .37 BB swing. These stats and charts are updated daily. Its a good resource, imo. EDIT: edited the numbers I was reading the wrong position. The numbers have no been corrected to reflect the UTG position. |
