What is meant by Hi Low versus what is meant by 8 or better? Which version is the low like Razz? Thanks.

Re: very basic stud/omaha question
Hi/Lo and 8 or better are the same thing.
Razz is JUST lo. |

Re: very basic stud/omaha question
"8 or better" is specially referring to a qualifier of an 8 or lower. Hi/Lo could mean both hi and a lo with no qualifier. It's uncommon, but possible.
Of course, you'll hear people just say "Omaha Hi/Lo" in which case they're probably referring to "Omaha Hi/Lo Eight-or-better". Regards, T |

Re: very basic stud/omaha question
Thanks for the help. I'm reading Malmuth's Stud for Advanced Players and he makes a distinction between Hi/Lo and 8 or better. I just assumed if you were playing Hi/Lo, that you needed a qualifying low to play low.

Not necessarily. All Hi/Lo declare games are played without a qualifier. |

Re: very basic stud/omaha question
Hey, Kurn, is this usually referred to as "Stud Hi/Lo regular"? I had someone at Wynn mention that they played that in the 10/20 mixed game, and I wasn't sure.

Re: very basic stud/omaha question
I've never heard of a declare game played in a casino. Too hard to police, I think.

Yeah, I was probably just not listening carefully.

Re: very basic stud/omaha question
High-low regular means no qualifier for low, and no declare.

Re: very basic stud/omaha question
Well, presumably when Sklansky mentions stud high/low declare in the original Super/System, he's referring to a game found at casinos of the time, right?
