It\'s clear I don\'t know how to play QQ
So please help me:
$500 max 2/3/5 10 to open at Lucky Chances, SF. I have $1300, villian has about the same. I open UTG to $35 (standard raise) with QQ and get 4 (!) callers. Villian on Button makes it $150. I have been playing pretty LAG, raising J2s and KK the same, showing lots of weird hands, people think I can be crazy. Villain is a rock, no two ways about it. I've only seen him play back when he has a monster. Therefore, I feel that the reraise is either AA, KK or AK. I call time, think for a while and make it $400 to go. Folds to villain who calls. So now we are down to KK or AK. Flop comes rags. With $900 left, I push. He calls with KK, I don't improve. I'm not sure what I could have done differently preflop besides fold. And with the preflop play, I don't see how I could have played the flop differently! Help!! |

If he's a rock and you know his reraise is serious, why did you reraise him lol.
In general, dont 3-bet QQ preflop. When he reraises call and hope to hit a set, and evaluate whether he might have AK when you play the flop. |

In addition to not having enough odds to flop a set, you were seduced by a ragged flop and spewed the rest of your money. Sometimes you have to realize you're beaten, fold and get on with the next hand. Garland |

Re: It\'s clear I don\'t know how to play QQ
Problem here is if you think he has AK, KK, or AA then reraising is a disaster and you set yourself up basically so that when the flop is rags you make a huge pot and either AK folds or KK or AA calls and busts you.
-A lot of those rocks will even hesistate to reraise AK and probably wait till it's suited. But a lot of the time you'll see them just call a raise with it. A guess here on the likelyhood could help significantly with your post-flop decision. -A reraise here accomplishes very little except build a pot in which your hand range is clearly inferior. If the board comes rags, you don't want to just stack off to KK or AA, you have to be careful and remember that AK isn't going to stack off here and so a big bet will in essence either get a fold or get you stacked and if he's more likely to have KK or AA then this doesn't even become close. I wouldn't fold pre-flop since It's 115 back to you and there's 290 already in the pot and with that 115 you get a damn solid chance of winning his remaining 1150 or so in addition to the 290 in the pot already and the fact that he probably has a big pair and will pay off. The key here is getting away cheaply on the rag flops and just looking at it as finding a better spot against a better player or playing some poker and picking up on when his AK missed. |
