Well from the work we do...i know it is "illegal" in most states to carry more than 10k on you (you can be held for it thus the "illegal"), although I believe they bumped the sum up a little. They can detain you and take your money until you can "prove to thier satisfaction" where you got the money".

Generally the way this works is that they can claim the money was involved in a drug transaction, and therefore seize it. Since many large bills have *at some point* been involved in drug transactions, any time a guy is carrying a lot of cash, it's almost assured that some of the bills will have trace amounts of contraband on them, usually enough that a dog can pick it up.

Arkansas law enforcement is actually quite famous for running this scam.

They don't really need to use the 'drug tainted money' excuse and they can just grab what they want. Cops like the bling-bling too, this case happened last month:

Deputy stops man for traffic violation, but ends up seizing his cash and jewelry:

You don't need a mule for chips.

[/ QUOTE ]

You don't need someone to smuggle them, but you do need someone to actually put them in their luggage and haul them around. 1000 chips is a significant amount of weight to add to your luggage, I wouldn't want to be the one to have to schlep em all over the airport.

You didn't quite understand what bigfishead said. They each bring some (a handfull?) of very large denom chips from the Bellagio (their currency), and then buy a bunch of $1 chips from the casino cage to use at the table as whatever denom chip they decide and either trade Bellagio chips as necessary or make other arrangements for transfer of funds after the game.

Now, just stumbling by the table and seeing them play with $1 chips must look pretty funny if you don't know the situation.

Oh, I get it now. So if I'm just walking around and want to get in this game, who do I buy chips from? Obviously they don't want someone to sneak in some $1 chips. That was the reason I assumed the $1 chips they were using were from the Bellagio - it would be MUCH less likely that an outsider would have a significant number of them to try to sneak in, whereas with using the local $1 chips, I could just go buy a stack and try to sneak a few in.

I sincerely doubt there have been any people in a long while buy in for even the minimum (100,000) that at least one of the regulars didn't know.

Just an assumtion though
