Help Creating VBS File

I downloaded the latest version of windows scripting, but I don't know how to create a new script. The instructions I have say to create a new text file with a ".vbs" extension, but my computer isn't recognizing that as a script.

Do you have show extensions of known file types on? Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View Tab, then uncheck 'Hide file extensions for known file types'
