Default Tunica Grand joins the long line of rooms to give up on 1-2 NLHE

No more 1-2 NLHE at the Grand. As a dealer, I say, "Good riddance!"

They had a 2-5 NLHE game tonight. Unbelievable action. Last down I dealt, I pushed two different pots >800 to people who had won a showdown with no pair (and I don't mean AK vs AQ--I mean two small flush draws that each moved in on the flop). Last hand I dealt, EP made it $25 to go, and 8 players saw the flop. Somebody told me about a pot that was $250 to go BTF, five-way action.

Compare this to the steady stream of $8 and $9 pots we'd been pushing in the 1-2 NL game.

No fear, The Grand will be back to a couple 1-5 stud and 3-6 hold em tables next month.

Thats too bad. The game at the grand last weekend was very good. Lots of big pots and some really weak players.

Ken,

Congrats on cashing in one of the Grand tourneys.

Yeah, the 1-2 was great last weekend, but that was the exception.

And even when it's a pretty good game, it's a loser for the house. See the thread that compares it to 1-3 stud, where no one disagrees with that assessment. Also see Mason's essays on the effect it has on the poker economy. Finally, see the thread where Caesar's Indiana stopped spreading the game, mostly because many of their once-a-week regulars turned into once-a-month regulars when they started losing their money by the bucketful.

Chip and Fishead seem happy to hear that they get to deal more 1-2 NL. Like I said, they can have it.

Fishead, let me ask you something: Every thread that mentions the Grand, you come charging in to start bashing. Yet the last two posts that you made, where you mention playing, where did you choose to go? I know that house rules prohibit you from playing at the Shoe. But you still had options, and you chose the Grand.

So please, just give me a break from all the "Yeah, they're a joke!" posts, because if people vote with their feet, it seems like the Grand has your vote.

(I'm not here to shill. If I were, I wouldn't do it by discussing a game that we DON'T offer. I stay out of all the "Where should I play in Tunica?" threads. I hated it when I had to shill in the sportsbetting forums when I worked for a struggling off-shore sportsbook, so I'm certainly not going to shill for a successful American casino. I knew posting the words "Tunica Grand" would open the door to the bashers; I almost didn't do it, but I thought the decision to drop 1-2 NL was worthy of discussion. Silly me, thinking that this thread would be about the game of 1-2 NL and the business of running a poker room, and not about the Grand. Finally, nothing posted here was incorrect--after the WPO, we will go back to 1-5 stud and 4-8 HE, and probably 2-4 HE, with 10-20 on weekends, and "the pink chip game" popping up randomly. I don't see anything wrong with that. I know I'll regret making this post, but all the "Ha ha, they're a joke!" posts from someone who chose to play at the Grand over all the other available local cardrooms just stinks, IMO, and I just couldn't help myself.)

Since this has turned into another "bash the Grand" thread, my good friend Randy should be here any minute.

Well I didn't really have much to add to this thread. I have been involved in promting NL in the past. The game is viable if there is a steady stream of hotel guests to feed the action. With NL being played on TV some players want to play NL. NL also has the attraction of allowing someone to bet what they want when they want instead of having to correct their bet sizes etc. In today's market I would spread fixed buy-in NL games that help avoid the problems Mason has pointed out in the past.

As far as bashing the Grand, I stand by my assessment that the management is unfamiliar with the rules nad procedures of poker.

Didn't the current poker room manager come from Caesars In?

Yes she did. If you have never played in California you will be happy at the Grand. If you have become accoustomed to Indiana poker the Grand won't seem so bad; if you are used to how they do things at the Horseshoe, in California, or most of Vegas you will not like the Grand.

I don't like Caesar's In very much but it is close to my home. I love Tunica. I usually stay at the Gold Strike. Next trip down I want to play at the Shoe.
