Chopping

Just played in a live tournament in Blackhawk CO. $20+4 buy-in with 40 people. Survived into the money which was top 4. Payout structure was 50,30,15,5% Was on the fortunate end of a bad beat to move into the top 3. I started to do some stealing and was solidly 2nd in chips, but the chip leader was huge. My question is this, I'm confident in my short-handed play from many many SnG's, but should a chop be brought up, and if so what kind of deal should be made?
