Default Young Players!!!?????

I have been playing online poker for about 2 years, Alot of people know me from playing online. I am 21 years old and barely old enough to play at a casino. Thing is, when I do go to a casino, I feel like most of my opponents (anywhere from 2/4 to 15/30) treat me like I am an amature. While this is good for me, I keep hearing about how most young players (who look like they're in their low 20's) are total fish. I would think that most players my age, who have the balls to play poker at a casino, know what they're doing. any comments or stories?

I am 20 years old and have been living off of poker for almost 2 years now, I love the lack of respect I get from the old men who have been "playing cards longer then I have been alive" yet in all those years they haven't realised that QT is not a powerhouse

Well you are fish to them because you could only have so much experience, like on your job resume, it's not likely very impressive. [haven't earned it yet..]

The real reason though is because you are young and really don't know jack squat about life in general. [which is true by the way you'll realize this when you hit 30's. 8)]

I live in vegas and if I want to feel young, I can go play locals poker too...

And yes some people never learn, that is what messes up good players vs. junk players sometimes too though, damn QT playing geezers!

I was in a NLH tourney recently and I could just tell this OLDER GUY (65+) was MAD when I beat him on a pot, even though the old fart had 15x more chips then me, I think he gave me his best death stare when I raised him that hand, let alone when I took it down.

Note the calling station re-tireez at your table, and burn them every chance ya get. 22339 board and calls river with QT? Damn it, I was in with bluff...

Join the club and enjoy membership while you can. Anyone wants to bully or play over you due to your age or appearance deserves the severe thumping that you will deliver. A 24-year-old who works for me likes to play hold'em when we visit cities that have good game. We're lucky there are a bunch of them. Nobody was stupid enough to play over the guy (he looks like he's 18) after a few hands and after a few hours, they were asking for advice. Forget the age factor, it only matters when you're surrounded by idiots and that is basically a winning lottery ticket.

I get this at the local casino when it holds it tournments, 100+ players.

'You know these tournments only finish at 2am so if you make it to the final table (smirk) you better phone your teachers and tell them you'll be too tired for school in the morning.'

.. I made the final table.

Its ironic, I give a lot mor respect to younger players who are playing mid/high limits, than I do to the older guys. I think on average its a lot harder for a young person to get together enough money to play 15-30 than for an older person. Of course this is not always the case but I think it is true 80% of the time. When I see young players (especially the ones I see every weekend), I figure ther is a good chance they are winning players to bring all that money down every weekend

Most poker players don't play well. Therefore, most young poker players don't play well. Most older players don't play well.

Most players who tell you that you are fish, don't play well.

What difference does it make what people think about you or people like you? Don't go into a poker room looking for respect. Go there to win.

That said I do do find that the younger players in Connecticut are better than in other places, probably because of the large number of good colleges around there.

It's true - most young players are total fish.

Of course, most old players are total fish too.

As a 21-year old myself, I think I can say with some degree of certainty that the reason us young players are treated poorly is because many of us act poorly.

I was playing at the Taj last week, and another guy who looked to be 21 sat at my table. Man, this kid just couldn't keep his mouth shut. After every hand, he thought he could put someone on their cards. I took down a pot without having to show, and he says, "Two queens, huh?" I said, "No. And unfortunately, you only get one question per hand, and that was it." He felt the need that inform everyone that he check-raised after the flop to get the river card for free -- thanks, because we didn't all realize that. And I didn't care about how he did at the table he was sitting at before... all I cared about was that he lost his entire stack at my table.

The point is that a lot of kids (and hopefully I'm not included in this) read the same two or three books and watch the same WSOP and WPT episodes on television, and all of the sudden think that they're G-d's gift to poker. Personally, I realize that I'm still very new to this game, and although I like to think that I'm decent, I keep my mouth shut when it comes to the gameplay. Respect is not given--it is earned. If you play well, you will quickly earn people's respect. Or if you don't gain their respect, you will at least gain their chips--and let's face it, which would you rather have?

these are probably the types of people that perceive anyone as a fish if they are younger then them. a 50 year old can sit down at a table of 60 yo's and since he hasn't been playing as long as them, they will not give him any sort of respect.

think of it from their point of view. they've probably been playing for many many many years. never picked up a book or studied the game. here comes a young kid that has probably played less then 3 years, so to them he doesn't know nearly as much as them. it's an experience game. and to be honest, most of the young players that do sit at their game, probably know squat. little do they know that you've probably studied the hell out of the game.

personally, i don't give anyone respect, young or old, till they've showed me they play well. i'm sure you do the same thing.
