identifying good / poor players
I am just making some notes at one of my sites and was thinking about how I identify good players.
Good players don't play many hands more likely to fold don't call crap hands to the river don't raise with crap check raise for value???? Bad players play too many cards keep calling hoping to make a hand win lots of hands on the river don't fold obviously you can't see everyones hand at the showdown so it can take some time and assumptions to identify players as being in a category. Have I missed anything here? am I completely off the mark? Have other people got any ideas on identifying players? What else can I do to identify players I want to play with and those I don't. Re: identifying good / poor players
In Party's games, I note solid players and superaggressive players. Otherwise, I assume loose-passive "I'll call to the river with Ax if I flop an A" players. Aggressive players are important to note though, lots of check-raising fun and capping with much less than the nuts when heads up.

Re: identifying good / poor players
I think there are lots of ways to be a good player and a bad player. Some good players are tight, but not all of them. Most bad players are loose, but not all of them.
There are times to play tight and times to be the most aggressive player at the table. A great player knows the difference. Maybe some day, I'll be a great player. |

One more thought
I was just watching a $300/$600 heads up game. I think both players are VERY good, and neither of them looks the slightest bit tight.

Re: identifying good / poor players
can't always tell that, especially when someone first sits down... How I like to play, when I sit down at first, I play a little crazy, and try and setup a table image... I like having that... Most players looking to see how i play, get my crazy style in thier heads for awhile, and it ends up paying out when i turn into solid mode, or get lucky in my crazy playing

Re: identifying good / poor players
I thinks it's easier to identify good players...
Good players win money so that's easy notice. Therefore players that win money stay around and play more often and then are more recognizable. Bad players lose money and you won't see them around for very long because they won't have any more money to play with. |

Re: identifying good / poor players
thats actually a poor way to tell in a given session, bad players will have some very huge winning sessions, more so than a good one, b/c theres more room to get lucky. Of course they have more huge down turns too.

That's certainly a heck of a good start... Maybe more than a "start"... perhaps that's 90% of it?
