Default Internet Connection Nightmare

Hey all,

I'm a college student at William Paterson University in NJ and it just so happens that we have the worst cable network imaginable. I literally cannot log on to Party Poker anytime between monday morning to friday night because the connection is so slow. On the weekends a lot of people leave campus and therefore there is more bandwidth available. The school has the worst tech team on this side of the Mississippi and not enough care for the students to even listen to me when I ask them for assistance.
I've checked around and I cannot get cable or dsl from anywhere. Dial-Up is not gonna work for me considering I'm always multi-tasking and 8-tabling. The only option that I can think of is Satellite Internet, but I'm not sure even if that will work, not to mention the 400 installation fee+ $80/mo. it costs to have it. However, poker is how I make my income so maybe I'll have to take the leap.
Do any of you have an alternative suggestion for this?

Thanks,
Mistaken

Doesn't Verizon have wireless internet access for like 50/mo?

You say the connection is too slow even to log in, at least dial-up will let you log in and play some tables. If you have to multi-task, how about a second computer on the campus cable for other stuff and make the dial-up poker-only?

Also, I may be wrong on this, but I didn't think satellite internet was a whole faster than dialup - what speed are they promising you?

There are two factors when talking about the speed of an internet connection. One is bandwidth which is the measurement that everyone talks about. The other important factor is called latency. For a satellite link, it could be quite high (that's bad!).

Internet poker doesn't require a lot of bandwidth. But since it sends/receives a lot of small messages, the latency factor should be low for a reliable/stable connection.

Since I have never tried a satellite link for poker, I don't know if the latency really is a problem. I just wanted to point out that it COULD be a factor when considering that type of link.

G'luck all,

T-Mobile is cheaper, mine was $30 a month, and was good enough if you ONLY played poker and no surfing.
