I've wondered this myself. Add to that. Why is a 3 a trey. I have only heard this in poker.

You can get treys in basketball, also... but it's a less commonly used term.

That doesn't quite make sense, since they say 5's (3 fives) over 2's. So it would be more like the Titanic than a real boat. ;-)
