Re: Turn raise, or keep calling?
I like this line, even with a different river.
Yeah raising the river might be better then calling on a river blank, but there is an either better line if you are planning on throwing in a raise. In a HU situation you would almost certainly take the call-call-raise/fold line but the 3rd player in the middle almost always changes a river raise into a turn raise. If he is drawing, he isn't going to put any money in on the river. If he has a draw (such as 9x) we want to get the max out of him on the turn. If he has a 5 outer he isn't going to pay off the river raise so we either need to make him call two bets on the turn or fold his 5 outs. So as long as the 3rd player is putting bets in we should take the overlay and raise the turn. Brad Notice that the raising the turn costs us the same as raising the river. When we raise the turn we will raise and call a 3-bet. If we don't improve on the river, we fold and lose 3 BB. By raising the river we call the turn and then raise the river and fold to a 3-bet (also costs us 3-bets). The only difference is that we get a bigger overlay from the 3rd player putting in bets on the turn which makes it more +EV for us to pop the turn (if we are going to raise a street). |
