Recommend me some cool books (non-fiction please!!!)
I now spend 90 mins a day on the train and have been starting to read once again. Recommend me some cool non-fiction stuff.
I'll be picking up the Robert Rodriguez book 'Rebel Without A Crew' that Diablo mentioned on another thread, plus Michael Johnson's 'Slaying The Dragon', because he rules. Gimme some mo'. |

Re: Recommend me some cool books
OK yeah, let's narrow it down somewhat.
I want light reading. I don't want anything to sciencey (although Brian Greene's first book sounds pretty good). Nothing history or war unless it's really good. Film/sport/music/autobiographies, good, good. Surprise me. edit - oh, and I'm English, so nothing about baseball. |

Re: Recommend me some cool books
Kingdom of Fear by Hunter Thompson. His last book, mostly autobiographical. Impossible to put down. A Tour de Force of Epic Proportions. You will be laughing out loud on the train and strangers will stare.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det...ks&n=507846 Books that put me in a certain mood are what i look for. Feynman's books are great, and they'll put you in a jovial, happy mood. Sometimes ill read some of Kingdom of Fear before a night of drinking on the town, and itll put me in the mood to be a crazy drunk bastard. The Indespensible Calvin and Hobbes; Bill Watterson. Puts me in a great mood when i read it. Includes the adventures of Tracer Bullett, the Duplicator, the Transmogrifier, and I think the time machine box, among others. Also, If you are a math dork like me, Fermat's Enigma is a great read about a proof that took centuries to complete, and is a very interesting read, even without a math background. |

The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King. It's so unlike anything he's ever done and it is brilliant IMO. You will thoroughly enjoy it if you decide to read the 7 books, starting with The Gunslinger.

Re: Recommend me some cool books
I'm reading "The Historian" right now. It's a pretty cool book about Dracula ... I think it made best seller. Not a lot of action in the book, but somewhat suspenseful. Kinda has a mystery type theme to it. Worth reading
Edit: My bad this is fiction... I should learn to read |
