you're fine the whole way.

check-raising the flop is an interesting idea, but i wouldn't do it because 1. it won't make anyone fold, 2. i doubt you have higher that your fair-share of pot equity, 3. it will very rarely buy you any free cards given that you are first to act.

1. Who cares?
2. Hero has top pair. His equity is usually very good here.

ok, i'll give you #2 (though he's probably not that much more than 25% - any T,J,Q,K,A or any spade, and some inside straights all hurt you)

but I won't give you #1. we care about people folding becuase if we get somebody to fold a T,J,Q,K,A or an inside straight draw, or a backdoor flush draw, then we increase our chances of winning the hand. aka "buying outs".

I make this kind of call routinely. You have four cold callers, so yr getting 12:1 (after the rake) immediate odds, and are in awesome relative position to the preflop raiser.

(It goes without saying I chuck this if it's not s00ted.)

you get two pair or better 28:1
you get a flush draw 9:1

you have to play any pair to the river hoping to improve
your flush is screwed if someone else is sitting on diamonds

I'm too lazy to do EV math but it sounds like a losing proposition to me.

Wouldn't it be more approprate here to donk-bet the flop and hope UTG raises everyone else off the pot?

[/ QUOTE ]

sorry, I'm new here - can you define "donk-bet". what is the difference between a "donk-bet" and just a regular old bet?

[/ QUOTE ]

It's betting into the aggressor from the previous street (formerly known as a "weak lead"). Or am I using the term wrong myself?

u have a large reverse-implied odds factor on this hand, that is if you have the best hand which is unlikely. I think this should be let go on the flop. i dont like just calling down here
