Default KQo UTG late

$300 live MTT, blinds 600/1200/200, 27 players left. You have T13.5K UTG, everyone but BB has you covered. You have KQo. What do you do?

if there were no antes, i think this would be an easy fold. but there's nearly 4k in the pot, giving you an M of less than 4. i think the price of poker is just too high and you should shove the chips in.

I think it depends on the payouts, your philosophy as far as playing for first vs moving up in the money, and if the BB is on a stack that forces him to call.

My inclination is that if you are far from the money, and the BB has 10-12k and may fold, I would push. You gain a lot being able to take your full $14K into late position if you win that hand, enough to really move up in chip position with a couple blind steals or a double through.

I actually took this directly from HOH2 problem 9-10 and reduced all the chips by a factor of 10. Harrington's correct answer is push. It is from a major tournament where Harrington pushed and was called by Ted Forest with KK.

I expected everyone to say fold. It's a push because of the big ante. There is 3xBB in the pot with blinds and antes. With no ante, this is a clear fold.

I didn't even notice how big that ante was, i just looked to see how many big blinds you had. Maybe this Harrington guy is on to something.

You put all your chips to the center.

I would make a 3x raise of the BB hoping to win the blinds and antes right there. My rationale is that the other players would have to give me respect for raising UTG and I still have a decent stack for them to potentially give me respect for a real hand. I don't need to make a desperation play at this moment and risk all of my chips (still have over 10 BBs even with the BB coming next hand). I am comfortable playing a short stack and don't mind waiting another round before picking my spot.

No, you are pot committed with a raise. This is push/fold and maybe limp. If you raise 3xBB with KQo you have to call a reraise getting 2.4-1 pot odds. You could be dominated, but there is a good chance you are slightly behind Ax or an underpair.

Obviously it's a decision between push or fold. Looks like a push to me.
