I got the feeling that he wouldn't be betting anything other than a J on the river, but I may be projecting here. I don't think I'm good enough to divine an opponent's value betting habits after only 20 minutes or so.

I think the key here is that you took the lead... got good value for your 10 10... are going to make some money.

However, as the hand progresses... I don't mind you loosing out on that extra $100-$200 value bet.

If you over commit... and he does wake up with a monster... you're going to get stacked.

Furthermore, if this guy really has it out for you, "slow his role" and aggressive calling from the blind by checking down the river and showing him 10's.

QQ. And where would I be overcommitting? I'm afraid of only one hand on the turn.

3-bet flop, push turn. No one min-raises and then folds.

Edit: Fastplaying is the new slowplaying. In general, you seem to play your hands way too slow. At least the ones you post all seem to be played too slow.

When you don't 3-bet the flop it's pretty sketchy to lead out the turn, and I think most of the time villian will only call your turn bet. I think check raising the turn is the best play you can make in that position.

As it was played I would stick in 2/3 of pot on river

My mistake... I was thinking of another hand I was commenting on...

Disregard previous statement.

I think you played well. Let him bluff the river though.

Villain insta-called and showed K8o. What should I be taking away from this hand? I don't think he's betting on the river here with this specific hand, but will he do it often enough to make a check call profitable?

From this hand, you should be taking away that the villian is a total donkey.

I think the thing to take away from the hand is that checking and calling is certainly the worst possible option against all but the most thinking opponents.

If he got to the river on this board he has either hit the board reasonably hard with a set or two pair, or he had straight drawing type hand.

With the former he won't bet it but you may get value. With the latter he's certainly betting all in with the made straight against which you have commited to calling. Additionally you may occasionally get him to fold a set of kings.

Only a strong opponent would bluff here with a hand that contains solid showdown value.
