They put money into the pot in the pot where it would appear they have little chance to win.

Hi Nalapoint,

Although your aim is probably to ascertain answers from higher limit players, you should post this in psych.

I created two sub-definitions for my own using, which can help clear things up for you:

Possible Player (PP): They will continue to call if it is "possible" that their gutshot, runner-runner flush, ace in the hole may surface. They bleed their money slowing and rarely show their hands, because they are merely calling stations so they show last and lose very, very often.

Wrong Way Willy (WWW): They consistently do the wrong thing without knowing it, which shows their poor skill level right away. They call when they should fold, raise when they should call, fold when they should raise, etc. They just can't get it right.

Here's a more generic answer. A fish is someone who seriously overvalues his/her ability or seriously underestimates the abilities of his/her opponents.

This is in part true, but don't forget that there are a number of fish who neither overvalue their ability or underestimate the ability of other players, they just play to have fun.

The easiest way to quicky identify a fish is if on the flop he checks then calls a raise (or even a 3 bet) cold.
