Default Time for an overbet

I'm starting to experiment with overbets as I've NEVER used them before.

Villian is a donkey. 1 prior hand: I raised from the button with 78, he reraised from the SB w/AQ. He bet 1/2 pot on and A-high flop and I called with a gutshot (delay bluff if you will) and hit the straight on the turn. I bet the turn and potted the river when the board paired aces where he c/r'd minimum which I called.

So all in all I know he loves top pair type hands and was even willing to c/r with AAA Q kicker when I showed massive strength already.

*btw, I know the turn check is horrible*

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $10 BB (6 max, 6 handed) converter

MP ($8614.31)
CO ($689)
Button ($985)
Hero ($4131.75)
BB ($900)
UTG ($1108.45)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
4 folds, Hero raises to $40, BB calls $30.

Flop: ($80) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets $65, BB raises to $130, Hero calls $65.

Turn: ($340) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, BB checks.

River: ($340) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets $3961.75 (All-In)

It's $700+ to him.

Why? Villian is a total donkey. I think I can get called by an ace.

ok if he's that bad fine but fwiw this play is better if the T isn't a heart. but in general yeah it's not so good. but if this thread is about him being a totla donkey fine just throw money in the pot whenever and you win.

Then you should have bet the turn. Is he a guy that's gonna check an Ace through on the turn? Doesn't sound like it...

Here was the other hand I mentioned almost exactly:

Hero: 78off on button
Villian: AQo in SB

I raise to $40, Villian raises to $100, I call

Flop ($200) A 10 6r Villian bets $125, Hero calls

Turn ($400) 9o Villian checks, Hero bets $200, villian calls

River ($800) Ao Villian checks, Hero bets $600, Villian raises to $1200, hero calls.

There was another hand that was similar to this in terms on donkeyness so yeah I think he's that bad.

This looks pretty crappy. Also sounds like you like chasing gutshots, and for this one in particular you may only have had 3 outs.

I guess if you are 100% sure he wouldn't check the turn with 2-pair, trips, flush and would check an ace you could justify it. But as you decribed him why not just make a weak-lead on the river and let him call with his jack, or raise you with his ace?

Against anyone with half a brain this hand is very bad but I hope it worked our for you against this guy.
